Re: Eli Wilborn Enters the Transfer Portal

A lot of you guys are lost with the new world of college sports. You want to cheer the same 7 guys that you love every year because they are from McKees Rocks, lol.

As Duques pointed out, anyone that was under-recruited and overachieves at a smaller conference school is going to get recruited by a power 5 team. We are not in the running for the top players from mid-majors. Look at where the all conference players from small conference schools are transferring so far....

Adrian Wooley - Kennesaw St. to Louisville
Oscar Cliff - SD St. to Purdue
Quimari Peterson - ETSU to Washington
Marquel Sutton - Omaha to LSU
Abdi Bashir - Monmouth to Kansas St.
Noah Williamson - Bucknell to Alabama
And the two Robert Morris kids you mentioned, one is transferring to USC the other will go to another Power 5. Even with that being the case, most of these kids end up barely playing when they transfer up and transfer back down the following year.

Duquesne is NOT getting the shining stars from lower conferences. Their absolute BEST chance of succeeding in this new world of college hoops is to get talented guys who were over recruited by Power 5's and either weren't able to play or succeed. Those guys will transfer down looking for spots where they can get more PT and probably dominate against MUCH lesser competition.

And to not point out that all of those final four rosters are also loaded with 4-5 star players on top of a few guys that transferred in is irresponsible and misleading. If Walter Clayton came to Duquesne, they still wouldn't have made the tournament. You guys are acting like we won 25 games and won the league this year. The team STUNK!! And the new reality is you need to get rid of as many players as you can an start over every year now if your team stunk!

And towsonkid stating that Wilborn had better stats than Hugley last year as some sort of "check mate" post may be the craziest thing I have ever read on this site. If any of you don't realize how much better the talent is in the Power 5 conferences than the A-10 (which already has way better talent than 20 other conferences) you shouldn't even bother following college hoops in 2025, it's passed you by. You should go and see if you can find youtube clips of Bob Cousy and George Mikan and the basketball that you enjoy.

Hugley averaged 3.0ppg, 2.0rpg and .7apg in 9.9 mpg which translates to 9.3, 6.2 and 2.2 over 30 mins.
The prior year at Oklahoma his 30 mins averages would have been 14.3, 6.5 and 2.0
Wilborn averaged 5.0ppg, 3.5rpg and .4apg in 12.8 mpg with us, which translaters to 11.7, 8.2 and .9.

If you don't see that 9 and 6 in the Big East and 14 and 6 in the Big XII is like averaging 18 and 10 in the A10, whereas averaging 12 and 8 in the A10 is like averaging 2 and 2 in the Big East and Big 12, then I can't help you.

Re: Eli Wilborn Enters the Transfer Portal

And let me add one more thing, the most important point....

You're totally right Styles, what I wrote was a bit of hyperbole, of course there are players from lower level conferences that can be very good A-10 players, look no further than Dae Dae! My point is the bigger picture that I feel like so many of you on this board continue to look at our team from such a low level perspective and get yourselves so happy with mediocracy. I don't want to chase other A-10 teams and get excited because we beat one of them out for a transfer from Louisiana-Monroe.

We should ALL change our thinking. I want to recruit top 150 freshman and top 150 transfers. I want to perenially be at the top of the league and EXPECT to get guys like Max Shulga and Nate Santos. I don't want to compare ourselves to St. Joe's and GW anymore. We should demand and expect to behave like VCU and Dayton!!

C’mon KenOTR73, Kareem Rozier is taller than George and you saw how much abuse he received from this board.
