Necas

The long discussion on how tall Jacob is may be answered on the official website.

Or maybe he grew over the summer?

Anyway a lot of 6'10" players on this years team🤣

Re: Necas

Thanks Motor. The Dukes look really solid this year with a lot of talent and depth. Hopefully the team will gel early & get off to a great start.  I think one key for a big season is for Necas to take a big leap. He certainly has all the tools  to do it.

I agree BUT I’ve always felt his issue was ā€œroleā€.  He is always all over the place.  Matus seemed to come into his own when he focused on shut down defense and spot up shooting.  Prior to that he was doing different things all the time like posting up and/or driving to the rim.  I think it put the offense out of sync. Similarly Necas has no offensive identity.  Sometimes he drives from half court and gets blocked or chucks a missed 3 pointer.  Whatever they decide, I think he needs to focus on that and let the team support it. He’s a great defender so no issue there.

Remember when Marcus Weathers had his great season?  He really focused on post play and getting to the rim consistently and he wore teams down. With Big John there, I would love to see Jakub focus on post play and work the, dare I say it, KD inside out game.

Reign him in and watch him flourish.  As much as we’d all love to see him play like Larry Bird I think he’s a better Karl Malone

Re: Necas

I agree that Dru needs to have Jakub more focused offensively this season. Last season 48% of his shots were three point shots, and he only made 24%  while his freshman 3 point percentage was better at 34% that is not the point. The Dukes are loaded with wings that can shoot the 3 at a very high percentage. We need Jak to use that big athletic body inside.  If Dru does this I think Jak can more than double his scoring and rebounds.

Re: Necas

Necas is at his best when he is moving without the ball, making those sharp Euro cuts. There was such a falloff at guard play last year from Necas’ freshman year (Clark/Grant/Rozier) that he was not getting the ball in his best spots. I’m expecting better guard play this year resulting in more offense from Jakub.
