GW game thread

Yet another game starts with "Missed 3-pointer by Derrick Colter."

Re: GW game thread

Brutal start. Soko and Colter discoloring the bed linens.

Re: GW game thread

Now Jeremiah Jones has joined the sheet crapping frenzy. Nearly 5 minutes gone, we've taken and missed a total of 3 shots.

Re: GW game thread

Well, this was the one league game where I felt we had no chance to win, so it's not going to kill me.

Re: GW game thread

I'm extremely impressed by our poise during the first half.  This could have easily been as bad as the Joe's game, but they kept their composure and are still in it at the half.

Re: GW game thread

Duquesne plays about as well as they can, the team isn't very good.

Re: GW game thread

Jim Ferry: "Our point guard play was horrible."

I will be interest to see the box score.  Colter, Ridenour, White and Jeremiah ... we need better guards (or vast improvement in these guys) to win in the A10.

Re: GW game thread

Watched Pitt win on the road in South Beach. Reviewed the box score the Dukes hung in on the road until the end. George Mason game @ home huge if win no last place finish in the A-10 for 2014. Anyone notice Virginia Tech hired a new AD. Many applicants Cincinnati AD got the job. I assume the mens basketball coach is on a short leash.

Re: GW game thread

It's a bad loss in the sense that the Dukes once again reverted to bad play early against a good team, dug themselves a hole, and couldn't escape. Mason had another good night shooting the ball and of course we limited his shots. Some day Ferry will get Micah 10-12 shots and add a dozen points to our total, instead of letting Jeremiah Jones and Derrick Colter continue to shoot.

No one wants to believe me, but Colter is not going to get us to the next level and Jeremiah is not a starter in the A-10. White might be more comfortable next year (JUCOs always need a year) and provide points off the bench. But we need a high quality PG to be competitive, someone who can play in pressure situations and hold his own against other top PGs.

I don't want to hear that these guys aren't out there, I provided a list of NJ kids who can be stars in the A-10. Ferry seems committed to Colter even though he can't fix him. I admire the hell out of the fact that Colter is a gym rat, but if he's practicing 20 hours a day and still not improving then we need to upgrade the position.

No offense, I want to win.

Agreed, ED.  Even average PG/SG play will not get you moving up the food chain in the A-10.  I think you need above average guards to compete in this league, and exceptional guards if you want a shot at being a top tier program.

I'm rooting for Colter because he does work hard and seems to be a fine young man.  But he doesn't pass my eyeball test as a starting A-10 point guard.  Felt bad for him in having such a crappy game in front of family and friends.

Re: GW game thread

I wish him well in all facets of life. But despite the article's assertions, he is not a good shooter and he is not playing better this year. Maybe something will click eventually.

Re: GW game thread

Although I doubt we will get him, the Dukes offered Tarin Smith out of St. Anthony's.  He is a PG and is apparently playing really well now.

Re: GW game thread

This is EXACTLY the kind of PG we need. He was on the list that my friend Mike Kinney provided.
