Max

Max is absolutely the biggest wildcard on this team and his performance the rest of the way will be the difference for this team. He had a 4 minute stretch yesterday where he was unstoppable in every facet.  He scored, rebounded, assisted, and played remarkable defense both defending the perimeter and that amazing block.  It has to be so frustrating for Dru to see this and know Max has this much potential but doesn’t perform at that level with ANY consistency.  Zach remarked in CalDuke’s podcast that Max was benched earlier this season (remember that game when he didn’t play?) for effort in practice.  Dru is doing his job to get Max where he needs to be but Max needs to go all in.

Cam has value for this team, but it is no longer as a starter. Jake and Max have surpassed him.  I think Jake needs to start and Max needs to play to his potential.  If Max can play like he did yesterday consistently he needs to be on the court 20-25 minutes every game. He has special skills but clearly gives low effort and makes poor decision too often.

In my opinion, Jimmy is the most consistent player on the team.  He is so steady and solid and Dru seems to like him at the point with TG on the bench. I’d love to see more Jake, Jimmy, and Max at the same time.  I like Cam, and he still provides a nice option for Dru but if the non-con schedule showed us anything, it’s that cam should not be starting anymore.

Re: Max

I agree 100% and I think this is the key factor entering into Atlantic 10 Conference Play.  Cam Crawford, I view, as a better option off the bench.  His shooting has been streaky, his defensive play hasn't been there, and he doesn't really dribble-drive.

PG:  Guinyard
SG:  J. Williams
SF:  Edwards or DiMichele
PF:  Necas
C:  Dixon

With Crawford and either Edwards or DiMichele who isnt starting above off the bench.

That’s how I see it too.  With no Hugley, we aren’t exactly thin at center but we’ll need to see if Milosevic and Bus can hold their own in conf play.  Need one or both to really shine.  I believe we’ve seen indications that it could go either way. Big Dave NEEDS to stay healthy and out of foul trouble too

We don't appear to have one solid all around big who can score and play D for 30 minutes. Looks like big man by committee which never compensates for that solid big who can do it all for 30 minutes or so with adequate back up.
Necas has shown more of what we need to see but still needs to get to the rim more. Given this scenario, I'm not overly optimistic moving into A-10 play. We need Hughley in there and giving a full effort on the defensive end. Without him filling that role, I'm anticipating something like 8 or 9 A-10 wins at the most.
Any thoughts?

I sort of agree with your overall point but will say, traditionally, bigs don’t play 30+ minutes a game. Too hard on their bodies and too often they foul.  So, having Hugley was a luxury because the 20+ minutes you’d  get from him and 14+ plus you’d get from Dave would be perfect.  And having the 2 others to fill in everybody would be rested.  So now everybody moves up one.  And we’ll be smaller when we see Jakob and Alex Williams as the only 2 “bigs” out there.  I really can’t see Hugley coming back after this long.  He is still “liking” DU instagram posts…
