I know many of us are very disappointed in the performance of this team to date. I still believe believe there's a lot of talent on this team. Their main issue have been self inflicted wounds that hopefully the coaches are working to correct. The Dukes are still very much in the hunt for a top 4-6 finish if the coaches can get this team to perform up to potential. I posted a link to the current standings. Don't give up yet Dukes fans.

Ready to be embarrassed at home again, except this time it is on national TV.

I'm trying to believe in the Dukes because we're 3-0 against Miller at URI and good offensive teams have mostly been the ones to beat them this year. Even moreso I worry about what another home loss would do to this team's morale and how they might finish if it happens. Unfortunately, I think the coaching difference between Joyce and Miller will be too much to overcome. Good offensive teams have beaten the Rams this year, but more than that good offensive rebounding teams have. We've been good offensively most of this season, but have not been good on the glass. Of course I hope I'm wrong, but I'll say Dukes 72 Rams 74.

There was a lot to like about this win. We got ahead and stayed there. The zone late in the second half was very good defense. We made open threes all day. And today's substitution kept up the defensive effort. JD's team just beat a decent team by a comfortable margin. Our first home win in the A-10 season, though we should have won the other 4 home games if we had played them this well. I hope they just found that balance of offense and defense like this game going forward.

All year it has been evident that we are a much better defensive team when we play zone. Today was yet another example of that. We need to play zone as our primary defense and only switch to man as a change of pace. We have enough offensive talent to play with anyone. When we play hard and stay in the zone we can be adequate enough defensively to compete. Definitely our best start to finish effort at home all year. Hopefully there is more of this to come.

Gotta love the FT shooting.

I’m satisfied with that win. Some big lapses there in the second half got my heart racing but awesome to see the team put it away once URI got the gap back to 4 points.

Coach Dru clearly out coached Archie. Finally, looks like he is limiting his bench to 8 players. After all it’s February in the A10. Keep up the defense intensity with the designated 8. GM on the road big task. Unfortunately, the A10 has an interest to get as many at large bids. Go Dukes.

A trip to Ritters Dinner makes it all worthwhile!

Impressive work by the entire team today! When URI tried to climb back in the 2nd half the Dukes matched their run with clutch play to end their hopes and win easily.
Great Free Throw and 3-point shooting made the final margin, but the Dukes also controlled the boards except for a mold lapse in the second half.
The zone was a big factor today, but the “man” was better as well, and that still needs to be the primary defense with the zone being used as needed
Nice work by DJ today. Archie had no answers, and in general in my opinion people assume he is some coaching genius because he is a Miller. At least today, I didn’t see any magic from URI.

Well I'm very happy to have been wrong again. It's a good thing I'm not a gambler because at this point I'm pretty sure I'd be begging on the streets if I was. If you asked me having only watched this game which coach was trying to make a name for himself and which one was in his tenth year in the conference I would definitely get that one wrong too.
The zone in the second half was great. The very rare times we went to a zone under Dambrot, and even last year under Dru, it was a straight zone, very passive defense. When we've done it this year it's looked like more of a matchup zone, kind of hybrid defense. It allows us to still be aggressive defensively without getting into foul trouble (likely a big reason we went to it today). I still think it should be a change of pace rather than making a major defensive shift at this point in the season, but it worked really well today and has in flashes most of the season. The loss to the Bonnies still stings, but great answer by Coach Dru and the Dukes today.

It was finally great and refreshing to see the Dukes play a complete defensive game. Had they played defense like that in some of the other games, we would see more "W's". Definitely a concerted effort on defense, both man and zone. The zone is fun to see with A. Williams or Necas playing the top of that zone, their length makes it difficult.
I hope Necas is ok, banged up at the end.
Also, glad to see the shortened bench like a lot of us have been asking for.
Nice to get a A-10 Home win, pretty good crowd, hopefully that helps moving forward.
If Jimmie and TG continue to do their thing, and Duquesne can get contributions from A. Williams (12 pts.), Necas (8 pts.), Hall (6 pts.) and DiMichele (8 pts.) they can win more games. Crawford and Max seem to be the odd men out.

Sincere -noncombative comment: I don't know what those stats tell us for that particular game. I love stats but we know they can be misleading. Other than the airball Jake shot, he had a couple of nice shots and definitely did better on defense. Dixon had No points, 5 fouls, I think only 3 rebounds and yes he was on the bench a lot, but did little to contribute when he was in. Hugley played most of the game and if I had to give him a letter grade it would be a B minus. I agree with all of the rest...just my opinion.

Crawford’s -10 is even more notable given it came in just 9 minutes. Of course Max didn’t play at all. If that’s what it takes to win I’m all for it. This was probably our best game of the season so far.

I lied our effort and think the direction of the team is getting better. We are all hoping that continues. If this team gets hit and learns to play the right kind of basketball together they could cause some problems for opposing teams. I like the change up with hall in the lineup too.

Good win. If we can get any of the 3 bigs luke warm each game, any of them, it would go a long way.

I'd say this much. If this DJ team shows up at GM and gets a win, then the A-10 in Pgh is an open tourny. Win at GM and the rest of the season is in our grasp.
