Guinyard no longer eligible. Now will have to wait until case is decided to see if he can play.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Guilty until proven innocent. I read it again. That is some BS there.

Re: Tracking the Roster

So id TG coming back or not?  He's still listed on the roster.  If not, I guess we still have a roster spot available.

This could make or break our season.  TG was worth at least 4 wins last year.

Re: Tracking the Roster

He's coming back, it's just a matter of whether or not he will ultimately be eligible and it doesn't look like we are going to have answers to the who is and who isn't eligible question until the season starts. Even then those lawsuits might continue throughout the season, it's really a sad state of affairs in college basketball right now.

Re: Tracking the Roster

I hate to say this, but from what I have learned I do not think TG will be eligible to play this season.

The Tennessee state court initially issued a temporary restraining order TRO, which allowed TG to practice and play until the case went to a full trial. The NCAA appealed this TRO and the court granted a stay of the TRO which now makes Guinyard ineligible to practice or play until the Appellate Court hears the the full argument. Guinyard's lawyers not need to convince the Appellate Court to reconsider and reinstate the lower court's TRO. The best case scenario is that Guinyard's attorney wins that argument and Guinyard is allowed to play while the case is returned for final decision in the lower court. The this process with the Appellate Court could take several more months before it rules and returns the case to the lower  court.

There is a massive hurdle written into the appellate court's August 26 stay. In that order, the judges explicitly stated they paused the injunction because of the "NCAA's likelihood of success on the merits" of the case.
When an appeals court openly signals that they think the NCAA is probably going to win the legal argument, the odds of them reversing course and lifting the stay are very low. If the appellate court ultimately rules that the stay was appropriate and keeps it in place permanently until a full trial concludes, the players will not play a single minute this season. A full trial in the lower court would take many more months to schedule, effectively killing any chance of the athletes playing before the season ends in March or April.
Unless the players' attorneys manage to secure an emergency bypass from the State Supreme Court, January 2027 remains the absolute best-case "earliest" date, while a total season-long absence remains the most likely outcome.

He's worth about 10 wins, maybe more.   This roster doesnt have much, at least not much proven.   Similar to past rosters w NIL BS, so we'll have to wait and see, but losing him is gigantic to the season.

Re: Tracking the Roster

Isn't the first day of official practice, like Oct. 15? I would say the Dukes are going to have to know which way the wind is blowing on this by then. Or, what to do you then?

Re: Tracking the Roster

Thanks CLK! This is the best explanation I have seen on the way the entire process will play out, very helpful!
