Offline Since we have so much time between games ... Offline The NIT win over Pitt for sure. Of course the loss a year later was the nadir. Offline Cincinnati with Oscar Robertson in the Pitt Field House in 1960. Dukes give it all they have, but lose 61-58. Offline Beating Pitt the first time they came into Palumbo Center. I remember entering the building to the sound of their fight song. Pissed me off to hear that racket in our building. Offline I haven't been following Duquesne basketball as long as many of you, having only started since I went grad school, so three of my Mount Rushmore games are pretty easy: Offline I'm only including games i attended. Offline Dukes v. St. Joe's at the Civic Arena. Don't remember the year. The Shieks chanting "We want the chicken!!" and then rushing the floor to de-feather the St. Joe's non-stop flapping Hawk and then all hell breaking loose as the St. Joe's team en masse went to protect their mascot. It was funny at the time but I guess the Shieks didn't think so later when they were put on some kind of double-secret probation or in fact disbanded! Offline I was at courtside during that game. The incident happened about 25 feet in front of me. I can still see the fury on the face of one of the student managers from St. Joe's as they rushed over with murder on their minds. Offline Wow, Russ Franke. Spent a roadtrip to WVU with Nellie, Franke, two walk-ons and my buddy GM, with Franke smoking what seemed liked two cartons of cigarettes in the front seat. The St. Joe's incident ranks with Billy Hartmann, boy cheerleader, grabbing the scarf of the Nittany Lion mascot as it ran by, bringing a hush to the crowd except for a few mumbled observations that "I think he broke his <bleeping> neck." Best part was after the PSU mascot was revived. He walked over to Billy Billy and pounded him into the ground while the DU fans cheered. Offline Y'all got most of the games but events at the Arena that often took place. Offline General good and bad memories ... seeing Pitt's Eddie Scheuremann, who was 6-11 and 114 pounds, miss a breakaway dunk and get called for hanging on the rim ... having Myron Cope say "Hey boy, grab me a pop, willya?" to me in the press room ... my darkest moment: DU down to St. Peter's by a point in the waning seconds of the NIT second round game, and seeing an unforced turnover by the Dukes sail over my head ... back to good ones, hearing BB Flenory taunt opposing PGs ("Young man, give me the ball") ... Doug Arnold giving the Phillie Phanatic a tongue-ectomy after the green SOB kept blowing the thing in Doug's face. Offline Humor me--two more. Norm Nixon at the foul line for a crucial one and one versus Pitt and after making the first one looking at the Pitt bench and taunting Keith Starr saying "This one's for you Keithy, baby!" and never hitting anything but net. (1978--I think) Same year--Dukes at St. Francis, PA at the end of the game with last possession to win it. John Cinicola calls a time out and is drawing a play with a pen on his hand (No one could find the clipboard!) and has an absolute senior moment and goes totally blank. Norm Nixon says to Jesse Hubbard "Jess, I,m getting you the ball underneath--Jam it.". Hubbard gets the ball, jams it and Great Ghosts alive, the Dukes win. Gawd, those were the good old days. YOUR Mt. Rushmore of memorable Duquesne basketball moments
Would like to see everyone's idea of a Mt. Rushmore of memorable Duquesne basketball moments. A couple "ground rules:"
1. Should be games you have see, either in person or on TV, or at a minimum been listening to Ray Goss.
2. Should be from your time -- e.g., the NIT championship would probably be #1 on the school's "official" list, but that was three years before I was even born. I prefer that you start from your time in school and go forward, because I think it will be different based on age.
3. Keep it to four "moments." There is no ranking, just a selection of your four.
4. Just a little commentary on why you chose the ones you selected.
Here are mine. So far, three are "in":
Beating Pitt at the Civic Arena in the NIT in 1980. It was Pitt, it was postseason, it was the largest crowd in Civic Arena history (for basketball), and I had a courtside seat. It doesn't get any better than that.
Beating Detroit at the Civic Arena in 1977. The Titans had a 22-game winning streak, Dick Vitale was their coach, Nixon had an unbelievable game and a highlight reel dunk, the game went into double OT, and the place was unbelievably loud for 3,333 paid attendance.
Beating Villanova at their place in 1980 after Bruce Atkins and John Pinone were ejected for fighting. Villanova was a pretty hated rival at the time, Rollie Massimino was a tool, and we cracked the Top 25 in the polls after that win.
Here are my other finalists:
The win over St. Louis. I was happy just to see the Dukes hanging in there at the end. Micah Mason and Jerry Jones played lights out, and the way they played as a team was amazing.
The "Billy Clark" win over Xavier at Palumbo a couple years ago. Watching the celebration at the end was one of the most fun things I've ever seen. And I received complaints from neighbors for the noise I made at the end of the game.
The "Billy Clark" three to beat Iowa on the road. I was in a hotel in Michigan for a business trip and the game was on some Big 10 channel. Had a lousy, weather-delayed flight and long drive to some remote hole in the western part of the state. Cheered me up considerably.
The Florida State game, although it violates my guidelines. I heard the end of the game on the telephone from DU's assistant AD.
Looking forward to reading what others have to say.

Beating Oregon in December of 1975 in the Far West Classic. This win earned us the 19th spot in the coache's poll that week. We lost to Texas Tech, and Northwestern the next two nights, and we haven't been ranked since (although we got votes after starting 7-0 in the 79-80 season, and during the 11 games winning streak)
Beating Villanova to earn a trip to the NCAA's I still can't stand Villanova.
Beating Notre Dame at the Arena in 1974. Notre Dame ended UCLA's 88 game winning streak in their very next game.

Beating #9 Xavier. We beat them a number of times--all of which were great, but this one was the best.
Beating Dayton as part of the winning streak using the 1040.
Walking up the steps from my seat and through the AC Convention Center immediately after beating Dayton in the conference semi final.
Re: YOUR Mt. Rushmore of memorable Duquesne basketball moments
Beating #9 Xavier in 2009 when the Palumbo was full and rocking, and the students rushed the court. I thought there'd be many more games like that since then...alas...
Beating #19 Temple in 2011, with TJ benched and the team still streaking to a 22-2 lead.
Beating #10 SLU in 2014, beating a top 10 team on the road for the first time in 40-some years, and on national TV to boot!
Fun fact: Those are Duquesne's only three victories over ranked teams since something like 1997, and I have been in attendance at all three. I may be the only person who can say that...maybe?
My fourth may be the NIT game versus VA Tech in 2009. A loss, but man, what a great game! And a great final performance by AJAX, who is still (IMO) the best player that I've ever seen in a Dukes uniform.
Re: YOUR Mt. Rushmore of memorable Duquesne basketball moments
Beating Pitt in the 1974 Steel Bowl 100-94. Bob Smizik wrote in the Pittsburgh Press before the game that it wasn't a question if Pitt would win, just by how much. My frat brothers and I went to the Pitt ZBT house after the game and behaved inappropriately.
Beating Pitt at the Fieldhouse in OT in February of 1977. I had a ticket in the Pitt student section and wore the Eat $#!+ Pitt t-shirt that I purchased from our head cheerleader and no one said a word to me about it.
Beating #10 Florida State at Palumbo in 1992. It was the first game that my dear friend Esmeralda Piedramarillo attended with me. She remains as beautiful today as she was then.
Beating Pitt at Palumbo Center in 1988 and joining the students in rushing the floor. What a fun night that was!

Re: YOUR Mt. Rushmore of memorable Duquesne basketball moments
1- Eastern Eight Tournament at the Civic Arena when the E-8 outdrew the ACC in overall attendance without Pitt or Duquesne in the finals, the tournament was returned to Philly where they drew about 1,000 per game.
2- Duquesne playing Wheeling in Red's years, after being held and jostled for most of the game by Wheelings Forward (Greg Sampson) Kip McClane put up his Dukes and punched the kid out to the delight of the Duquesne faithful in this annual blow out win.
3- Going to another Arena game and getting a coffee mug for free that read, "DUKE BASKETBALL "', I threw it away.
4- Any game watching Slick play, especially when he would get a rebound and go " Coast to Coast" for a layup with no one even close to him.
No wonder I have been a diehard for so long.
A diehard fan since 1961

Derrick Alston's putback against Charlotte to win our first post season game since the Carter years in the 94 NIT. I had seats right in the first floor right on the end line. It was right in front of me.
Not a top ten win, but beating #18 Xavier in 93 during our one year exile in the MCC. The Palumbo was as loud as I have ever heard it; John Carroll's best game ever as a coach. 5000 voices shouting OVER-RATED at the losing Musketeers
Walking into a bar in Sharpsburg after the first night of viewing for my Mother's funeral in December 1992, looking up at ESPN and seeing the Dukes over #6 Florida State! I looked heavenward and smiled.
Seeing a double dip downing of Pitt in 96 or 97 as I got to see Korie Hlede demolish the lady panthers and then saw Scott Edgar's(really? wow) team beat the men's team.
