Offline Has anyone heard anything? Offline Has anyone heard anything? Unless the player is a 3 star or better, they need to save that ship for next year. You can't go into the fall with only one spot open for next year. Only having two ships is bad enough. One is a disaster, and will leave the classes unbalanced. If they can land a Mike James, or a Damian Saunders, that's great, but don't waste that ship on a scrub, which is what 95% of what's left are. Offline Nzei is supposed to be good. Don't know if any studs would be available, as you said. James was a sleeper and Saunders a slipper. Guess you could get lucky that way. Offline I posted the following earlier on the Yuku board:Didn't see this on here but saw the following tweet from Alex Kline: @TheRecruitScoop: RT @coreyevans_10: After visiting Texas Southern this week, Old Dominion 5th year transfer Dmitri Batten is on a visit to Duquesne today. Offline Offline This guy looks like a lesser version of Jeremiah. Offline I always think if you can upgrade a position with a guy who brings different/better skills, the you should do it. Jones to me is a bench guy. He started two years in a row out of "necessity," I guess, in Ferry's mind, but he's clearly out of position at the 3 and he's not a strong enough scorer for the 2. I think some people see him as our best backcourt defender, but it's not really saying much, and Mason I think is a better defender. Offline I think there may be better options than adding someone who brings nothing to the table that you don't already have. Other than being a body on the bench I do not see how this kid fits. He is an undersized SF, a poor FT shooter 62%, a poor three point shooter 28%, and is prone to turnovers. He does not have the skill set to play SG. Unless Ferry is going to redshirt James I would hold the scholarship to see if there are any late surprises that can help this team. If we can not land a special player during the summer, I would give the minutes to James and Gill next season to develop them at the 3 and hold an open scholarship for next season. Last edited by CLK (5/16/2014 5:08 pm) Offline Batten chose Boston College, per Verbal Commits. Offline So he ends up going to an ACC school - and some on this board believe that he wasn't good enough or it would have been a waste for him to land at Duquesne? Offline Welcome. Post often, especially if you have any news (recruits, schedule, etc.). Offline So he ends up going to an ACC school - and some on this board believe that he wasn't good enough or it would have been a waste for him to land at Duquesne? I'm assuming that you followed Ferry at LIU. Feel free to give us your thoughts and observations about him. Some on this board are still very angry that the previous coach was fired, and have taken a very hard line towards Ferry. Offline Moreso towards the guy who fired Everhart, but OK. Personally, except for the "it's Bush's fault" stuff in the beginning, and some questions about lineup and substitution choices -- all of which I believe to be quite fair -- I've been supportive. Offline IF you have an open roster spot and you can fill it with a one-year player, it makes sense to do so, even if you're not projecting the kid as playing that many minutes. I hope this non-signing doesn't matter much for Duquesne, and I don't think it does. Thanks for getting us back on track. duq81 made some salient points about fifth year transfers vs. freshmen or JUCO recruits at this point in the season. I don't really have a strong opinion about how, or even if, to fill the opening. Of course, I'll be Captain Obvious and say if someone great fell into our laps we should go for it. Aside from that, we have 11 scholarship players and an apparent walk-on with some height in a system that is more guard/swingman-oriented, so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to fill it next year. Offline The idea is to fill the roster spot this year with a 5th year transfer, and still have the scholarship back next year. If you bring in a guy for one year and he wins you a ballgame or two, it is worth it. Offline You. Not the world. You need not think you're the world's spokesperson. Offline The world has already spoken! Offline Enough of the political crap. Basketball or post elsewhere. Some on this board are still very angry that the previous coach was fired, and have taken a very hard line towards Ferry. I stand by my previous post that this kid was not a good fit (not angry, no hard line, or have anything to do with the prior coach). Who's minutes would you have given him, at what impact to player development and morale? Micah, Stevens, Colter, Ridenour or would he play as an undersized SF? I still think there are better options for the last scholarship, including some grad transfers. How about Justin Martin? I have attached the transfer list. As of two das ago he was still available. My post was really not about whether this kid could play or not. The poster is obviously an LIU fan, and a fan of Ferry's, and I was just warning him about the tone of this board. He thinks highly of Ferry. Some on this board don't. Offline Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein 4h James Madison transfer Charles Cooke will visit Dayton this weekend, source told @CBSSports. URI, Duquesne, and Penn State in the mix. Last edited by CLK (5/30/2014 11:50 am) Offline That name has come up on this board before. Offline Rhody Basketball @RhodyBasketball 14h RT @GoodmanESPN JMU transfer Charles Cooke told ESPN he has set visits to Dayton for tomorrow, URI next Thursday and Duquesne on June 8.
Open scholarship
Michael Nzei ( ) was supposed to be a target. Are we still in on him? Or has the signing of Powell changed this?

Just curious why you would use the word "lesser" in comparison to Jeremiah. He averaged 11 points a game against decent competition, I think he would at least be considered comparable, or possibly a slight upgrade to Jeremiah in regard to scoring. He would give us some more flexibility at the three position.
Re: Open scholarship
I think the team would be stronger with a guy like Gill starting. If Batten can ush Jones for minutes this year, why not? •Thread Starter

This is my first post - and I realize you may view this as inflammatory - but in my experience the coaching staff knows how to evaluate talent. Doesn't mean they're going to hit every kid out of the park but they are going to do just fine given a chance.

Re: Open scholarship
This is a player who was looking at reduced minutes at ODU and now he's going to BC. It would be nice for him if he gets a chance to play, but it doesn't seem likely he will see a lot of action.

Re: Open scholarship
BTW, trying to practice revisionist history on Bush is hopeless. The world knows he was an 8-year disaster.
