Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

Rene Castro, and Mike Young of Pitt, have clearly been the two best players in the summer league. Don't think we have to worry about our backcourt for the next few years.

Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

Rene vs. Micah for the championship. Backcourt tandem next year.

Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

Not so fast, E.D.!!! You haven't seen Jordan Stevens yet.  If Castro and Stevens were race horses, I'd say they'd end up in a photo finish.  That's the bad news.  The good news is they are both worthy PG's and SG's.

Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

Are you saying we would sit a senior who can shoot 50%+ from three?

Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

NOPEJUST SAID NOT SO FAST ON ASSUMING CASTRO IS BETTER THAN JORDAN STEVENSSTEVENS CAN CREATE A SHOT FROM ANYWHERE ON THE FLOOR.  DON'T BELIEVE ME.  BELIEVE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE SEEN HIM.  PLUS, HE WILL HAVE HAD THE LUXURY OF PLAYING THIS YEAR WHILE CASTRO SITS OUT HIS MANDATORY ONE-YEAR BECAUSE OF TRANSFER RULES.  NOW ADD A 4**** 6'5" GUARD TO THE MIX!!!

This is why I won't be worried if the kid from UTEP has to sit out. We are strong and deep in the backcourt now, and it will be ridiculous a year from now. We may play 3 guards a lot next year.

Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

You don't have to shout sir. I can hear you just fine. I'll always be skeptical until I see players with my own untrained eyes, or more importantly, that part of the box score which indicates whether we won or lost before making final judgments. Knowing you've been to the games to witness Stevens in person, I would take your word that you think he can play. But again...summer league vs. A-10, summer league vs. Jamie coaching his own kids. Different game.

Re: Pro-Am Semi Monday Summary

Here is an account from DTPITT, who does a nice job of covering the summer league every year. There are also some observations from another fan in the thread. When the Pitt fans are taking notice, that's a good sign.

I hope Castro had an "off night" at the line.  5-11 FT shooting is not what you want to see from your PG.  Improving FT shooting has to be a priority for the Dukes this season.

Here is a view of the Dukes from a RMU blogger.

Always good to get positive notice from people not wearing red and blue glasses.
