President details reasons for firing Greg Amodio to the board

To the board:

I have accepted the recommendation of the Duquesne fans and alumni to terminate Greg Amodio's position as Athletic director of Duquesne University. Greg will be notified in the near future, and a leak of this reason shall not be distributed to the media.

We are grateful for Greg bringing our athletic program out of a moribund period, a skill he demonstrated at X and the reason we hired him. However as was the case at X he as reached a modest platue with our program. It is clear that we will not be capable of moving to the next level of excellence with Greg at the helm. By next level I mean annual contention at the top of the A10 conference, regular appearances in the NIT, and periodic appearances in the NCAA tournaments. We reached the conclusion that this kind of performance was impossible under his leadership due to uneven recruiting of new staff members, no turnover among his failing staff, an overall below average win-loss record in the last two years and a losing record in the A10, poor performance in close relationships with his coaches, the predictable collapse of our basketball team after the firing of Ron Everhart and a general disorganization and lack of communication to our contributing alumni and fan base that is clear to those that where close to this program and have not returned.. The recent loss of TJ McConnell and other players from the team is part of an unfortunate decision of Greg to not allow our student athletes to continue to compete in post season play, even though they worked so hard on the court and in the class room to achieve this reward. and an indication of the current decline in our program.

We are confident that we can find a new AD who will build on what Greg has accomplished. We used to have a great tradition, a virtually new home facility, the proximity and close relationship with the Consol Center, an  ineffective AD who can not, keep a radio contract for game broadcast, local tv contracts with root sports, regional contracts with espn and all their channels other than espn 53 on the internet, a core fan base that has not been seen and was  hungry for a better product, but he convinced me to fire the most winningest coach in 3 decades.Since then we have dropped our University commitment to the program by 12%. While not even close to a regular contender for leadership in our conference, Duquesne is now again the doormat of the A10 conference. The A10 conference itself is on the verge of a major improvement with the addition of new high quality university programs. Our program under the convincing of Greg to fire Ron and I agreed to it have sent our program to the possibility of extinction. I hope we can persuade a desperate down on there luck assistant AD to agree to continue this tradition of failure so we can sell another 5 year plan to the remaining fans and alumni.

I assume this is tongue-in-cheek. Next I'll be told I'll shoot my eye out if I get a Red Ryder BB gun.

Same leaked letter sent to board just a little change of names and text. No mention of Coaching staff present, they are a casualty of CD and GA. Enough is enough people this president and Ad have sold their sole to hosting and the consol.

Sold their sole? Egad! Where is Thom McAn when you need him.

Pederson fired at Pitt.   Keep this letter handy.

There are fireworks going off in Oakland. Maybe Steve can pick up Greg on the way to the airport. Does anyone have a number for a jitney?

Just like our program.

Pederson lost his protector when Nordenberg retired. How old is Greg's protector?

My apologies. I had posted something that I am told is not true. I had been given the information by someone "in the know" and apparently the source was incorrect. I have deleted the post.
