Anybody else find this guy extremely LOUD and annoying?? Screams everybody's last name after buckets so loud. He is a member of this board. Last edited by duqkurt (12/18/2014 11:26 am) Hello, my name is Dom and I'm the new PA announcer you guys are talking about. Welcome aboard Voice. It's good to put a name to a voice! Good Luck Voice, the late Art McKenna did this for years when dukes played at the Civic Arena, but they wine there so it might have been easier to excite the crown. Spell check intrusion, Dukes won there Hello Dom! Welcome. I would compare your job of trying to sell snow in Alaska. Too bad you weren't here when RE was and when we had hope in the present. Good Luck...you can use this gig for penance. Under the title: WTF? Spell check intrusion, Dukes won there Pardon this very respectful intrusion, but we also want to get Art McKennan's name correct. Welcome Dan. I'm always willing to give more feedback both and bad. I think the introductions is better this year. I wasn't crazy about the guy on the floor last year that would say "agent zero Ovie Soko",etc. I definitely like your intros more. Just a little less excitement on the baskets. The st Francis fans were joking saying I couldn't hear that who scored again?? Good luck and welcome again!!! I loved hearing the voices of Art McKennan, Ray Downey and John Barbero growing up as a kid who loved sports. Amazing voices, all of them. My all-time favorite is the late, great, Bob Sheppard. Under the title: WTF? I've noticed this before too. Not only that, why not get the shirts, basketballs, etc. to the kids rather than the adults? Either the DU students who are there or the young kids who are there? I've seen adults reaching for shirts tossed over top of the little kids that run to the front of the section to try to get them. Why not make sure that the kids get them? If you are an adult in the blue seats do you really need a little basketball more than the children who are there and excited about getting them? It seems we do things that alienate rather than help. Cheerleaders, announcers. We are one loss short of turning on the band again. New Announcer
Re: New Announcer
Wouldnt blame him though. Except for baseball all sports have switched to the loud announcers. My pet peeve is at Steelers games, that stupid "And that is another Steelers FIRST DOWN." That annoys me for some reason.

Re: New Announcer
I joined this message board because I wanted to learn more about the program and what the fans were thinking about the team and the games. I also expected to start seeing feedback on my performance good or bad and I welcome that.
Duquesne hired me to help enhance the fan experience and game day atmosphere and you can be sure I want you guys to have a good time while you're at the game.
Basketball is still a newer sport for me in terms of announcing and I'm always working things in my mind on how to get better at it and what to change.
I also announce for the Steel City Yellow Jackets ABA team here in Pittsburgh. I'm probably guilty of merging the two styles a little bit too much.
As we move forward I welcome your feedback good or bad as I try to be the best announcer I can be for your program.
Put 'Em up Dukes!

I hope the administration is paying you hazard pay for having to try and drum up excitement for the mausoleum that is your current work environment!

In light of the horrible state of affairs the following is only an insignificant sign of exactly how badly the wheels have fallen off the wagon. During a time out, my wife turned to me and asked why the cheerleaders just threw two of the free Duquesne Tee shirts up into the St Francis fan section. St Francis fans thought that hilarious. Evidently, the bad decision making permeates the entire program.

And Steel City Voice (Dan), I'm glad to see you aren't someone's brother but a professional - you can see my cynicism at how DU operates extends to everything. Since you said you are looking for suggestions: My suggestion would be to put a little contrast in the way you announce someone scoring rather than the same tone and same phrase each time. For example, instead of saying "Micah Maasaason" each time he scores (which admittedly isn't happening often right now) a simple "Micah" might do (or "Micah for 2"). Don't mean to be picky (and don't mean to be mean either) - I guess my frustration extends to everything anymore when it comes to DU men's basketball. A prolonged losing streak and the concession products are not safe.

If it's any consolation I was getting the vibe I was putting a bit too much into the basket calls. I guess no one can accuse me of not being excited about my job.
