Rhode Island

There is no streaming video of the game on Saturday. The game is being televised on regional networks, and is hit or miss by states. Unfortunately for me I am not in one of the covert markets. There is a list of areas that are covered and channels on the official site, see link below.

Re: Rhode Island

I would put this game in the slightly more difficult category than the St. Joseph game, but winnable.  As I mentioned elsewhere, I would not be surprised if we see them pressing the Dukes early.

Re: Rhode Island

CLK, the game is regionally televised, but it is also being streamed on GoDuquesne.com via the A-10 Digital Network.  The only games not able to be streamed are the nationally televised games.

Re: Rhode Island

Also thanks to Greg Amodio and Leafield Sports, the game is available on WPMY Channel 10 on Comcast.   HD Channel 812 I believe on my Comcase system.    Available in the Pittsburgh market.

Thanks.  I see the links now on both sites.

Re: Rhode Island

I realize the league schedule doesn't offer a lot of flexibility but it seems like the 4/5 time this year we are playing at the same time as Pitt. I can tell you with all honesty there are as many old school Dukes fans at the Pete tomorrow as what the total attendance will be at Palumbo. Never thought I would see that day.

Many of those are locals who don't have a tie to either school, but enjoy good basketball. We haven't given them much of a reason to choose us over a Pitt game during the last 30 years. There are plenty of folks who are regulars at the Pete, who would come and watch us if we gave them a good enough product, including some hardcore Pitt folks. Hey, I used to follow RMU pretty closely before they started owing us, and if they could get into a better league, I'd watch some of their games. There will always be the groups of hardcore fans who only follow their school (mostly alums), but there is a group of local fans who while they may lean one way, do root for all of the local teams. You have to give this group a good product to get them to come out though.

Re: Rhode Island

Duq81 I couldn't agree more I only made the observation because I've seen it with my own eyes including former Dukes players. What we fail to fully realize is that by falling to the third team in the city we become such a nonentity that the average fan doesn't even buy into anything related to the A-10. I live and die with the Dukes but I'll watch as much basketball as I can I just enjoy the sport. That's what makes this all the more frustrating people are waiting for a turn around just wonder if we will ever see it.

Good point.   But I think alot of us realize this and it is why long time fans are so frustrated.

I believe that when Pittsburgh hosts the A-10 that is going to be a tough sell to casual fans.   Luckily if Dayton is still in the A10 when that rolls around they will liklely fill the lower bowl.   I would also believe the upper bowl will be curtained off.

I don't know. Pittsburgh loves events. It will help if both Dayton, and VCU are good, as Dayton will bring fans, and VCU is a program that Pitt fans are aware of, and might come out to see. If Ferry is able to turn things around, this is a year where he would have a pretty decent team.

Re: Rhode Island

I too think this is a winnable game. Matthews is a stud, and will most likely "get his." I think it will be hard to totally shut him down.
we gotta keep martin/biruta from cleaning up underneath and cant let our zone turn someone like terrell into an all american and the nations leading 3pt shooter!
this may be a game where we see/need more of robinson banging away underneath.

Re: Rhode Island

as for the a10 in pittsburgh, richmond and the bonnies always seem to travel well here for games. I cant remember if dayton does, i know last time we played them at consol it seemed like there may have been a few fans in red(just kidding).
alot also depends on VCU, i think alot of folks came out last time to consol just to see vcu and shaka smart...

Re: Rhode Island

Betting line opened with URI as 7 point favorites, moved to and currently is at 8.

Pomeroy also has it as an 8 point loss for the Dukes, 72-64, giving the Dukes only a 22% chance of winning this game.

On a neutral court, this is a 12 point game. Biggest difference in the two programs with third year coaches... one team plays very good defense and the other doesn't play defense. And guess who's the "younger" team?  Based upon minutes played, the Dukes' experience is 1.50 years (#246 in the country's); URI at 1.41 years.

Shaping up to be a very abysmal day at Palumbo.

Doesn't sound like it so far. Dukes up by 6-8 later in the first half.

Re: Rhode Island

And "Groundhog Day" continues. Why do we even care?  Why do we ever have hope?  Nothing ever changes.

Jeremiah Jones with a stupid, brain dead foul loses the game in the last ten seconds!

Could you tell by Ferrys short interview that people are realizing jobs are on the line!  This isn't all fun and games

Re: Rhode Island

That was a Hor$eS*it call on Jones with 8 seconds to go - two guys going for a lose ball like that -  Even worse than the call/non-call in the Cowboy-Lion game -  but we won't get an apology from the A-10 -  and if they say "it was a Judgement Call"  I hope they also say "We will find officials who USE BETTER JUDGEMENT!!!"

Re: Rhode Island

I thought Jones killed us again today.  It was easy to double team Mason and Colter when nobody guards Jones.  He is such a liability on offense.  He get wide open looks and does not take the shots or when he does misses, and when he takes it to the hoop he can't finish on layups or gets blocked,  Ferry should have substituted Stevens for Jones on offense,  This would have taken the pressure off of Mason and Colter.  Just a heart breaker today.

I think they are on the verge of turning this around.  We should double down & lock them up before a power conference steals the entire group.

Go Dukes!   Keep your heads up!   Remember you have to learn to lose, before you learn to win - Jarrett Durham.

I have to disagree with this. IMHO, it was clearly a foul.  I went back and watched that play 10-15 times in slow motion. It was a definitely a foul.  The question to me is:  why is he going for that ball there when a foul places them in the double bonus?  The URI ram, #12 clearly back tips the ball off the missed shot and its headed towards an over and back call.  Even if the ram saves it, he will have to throw it back into play and hope one of his teammates catches it and scores in less than 8 seconds.  JJ could have easily played back and read the pass and picked it off.  Second, even if the ram saves it himself, he has to reverse courses and score a game winner in less than 8 seconds, which URI showed no ability to do today off of a non-set play.  In a best case scenario for Duquesne, JJ hits the ball out of bounds or gets called for traveling if he gets the ball.  He dove straight out of bounds.

So, maybe I'm missing something here, but what was JJ doing?

Re: Rhode Island

Fans were really into the game today.  I thank you guys for that.  Quite a few head scratching calls, both called and missed in this one.
