Offline That's call was f'ing awful. That dude threw his fking hand up like a you know what. I think this is the best game the dukes played all year. And Jeremiah is playing way better he's open for a reason and he's not taking 3's like he was at RMU. I hope the Dukes spank SLU Wednesday. Screw those refs. Offline I was more angry at the earlier pushoffs and travels by Rhode Island that never seemed to get called. Once their coach got called for a T the refs seemed to give a few quick "makeup calls" to help Rhode Island back into this. Offline CLK you have taken the words out of my mouth 1 step further what was Lewis doing playing the last 10 minutes. With the 5 we had on the court it was simple defensively for RI since its 5/3. Lewis and Jones are offensive non entities. Jones was 2/8 and 0/3 from 3. For the season he is in the low 30's from the field and 50's from the foul line. His play almost cost us the St.Joe's game and the horrible foul he committed on that out of bounds play is just bad. It's one thing to hustle and play hard but how about being smart. BTW that play was directly in front of me it was a foul and would have been a terrible noncall Offline CLK you have taken the words out of my mouth 1 step further what was Lewis doing playing the last 10 minutes. BTW that play was directly in front of me it was a foul and would have been a terrible noncall It is a shame it came down to that last play. Dome you were there I was watching on-line. You had two guys chasing Mason and Colter most of the second half. That shut us down. McKoy picked up some of the slack, while Jones was went totally uncovered. I just do not understand why Ferry did not rotate Stevens on offense. Offline CLK we are way to predictable when we have those 5 on the court. We also are to small since Darius doesn't always play like a 7 footer. We where out rebounded 38/31 more importantly it was 18/12 on the offensive boards. We where 26% from 3's a sort of live by the sword die by the sword. The last two offensive possessions we asked our guards to win the game on their own. No screens, no one to dump off to just make a play on your own. Micah did Colter couldn't. Also we left a timeout if not two on the board. The time out we did call if not for Micah's individual effort it would have been another empty possession. Offline so, as someone who enjoys basketball, i thought it was a very fun and festive game. as a duq fan, i left pretty irritated. I thought jones fouled as well, though I thought they could have let them play. as the same time, we blew a 13 pt lead, so there was no reason for the dukes to be in that situation in the first place, where the refs 'could' affect the outcome. Offline I was listening to the game in my car. Both Jarrett and Ray said that the foul call on Jones at the end of the game was the correct call when it happened. They backed off a bit when Ferry went ballistic about the call in the post-game interview. That lasted about 45 seconds while Ferry repeatedly said the call was ridiculous and ended the interview by saying that's all he had to say. Offline I was impressed by the defensive intensity in the first half. First time we've seen that this year. However, I was thinking that there would be an energy cost given the substitution pattern (or lack thereof). That was the biggest difference on the defensive end, and I'm sure there was some cost on offense as well. Coach talks about improved depth, but he isn't showing it with the minutes. I can understand the limits on minutes for Pantophlet - I mean Gill - but I don't see how the rest of the bench couldn't give more than nominal minutes. The steals of the first half were replaced with clean entries in the second. Offline I wondered why in the last 4 min the Dukes were deep into the shot clock before they kicked outside and then a wild jumper put up, agree on Jones, he was getting trapped underneath , and blocked if he shot, he may jump high but a 6-3 why is he playing like a forward ? Did Jordon R transfer ? Or just not play anymore? Offline Phildog the lack of playing time for Jordan Robinson has to be IMHO the most inexplicable aspect of this season. I watched him perform in the summer league and he looked very serviceable. If you look at his season stats in comparison to Lewis they are very similiar although he has played a lot less minutes. All last year we where told he was the best player in practice what happened. Unless this kid has issues we are unaware of he needs to get minutes. They have nothing in the current rotation that matches his body type or past shown capabilities to score down low. Last edited by The Dome (1/10/2015 9:56 pm) Offline All last year we where told he was the best player in practice what happened. I'm not sure where you heard this or from who, but Robinson was ineligible to practice last year, so it would have been hard for him to be the best player in practice... Offline I thik he meant since practice Oct 2014 (last year). We all heard those reports. Offline I was impressed by the defensive intensity in the first half. First time we've seen that this year. Pitt at Mellon Arena.

Re: Rhode Island
We still had some poor possessions late to let them claw into that lead but I thought our defense played so much better today and I still think we had one stolen from us. Of course I'm a total Duquesne Homer so...

also left wondering why lewis was still in there at end of the game. he looked gassed.
i think everyone else summed up jones performance today. thought mason played a hell of a game and domo looks to be just about back to normal.
still no robinson?!?
not sure about our last possession either. idk if RI had it covered or what, but i think DC was kind of confused or looking from someone(mason) who wasnt where he was supposed to be or covered, and he made a decision to drive. did we still have a TO left?

Re: Rhode Island
I try not to harp on college kids, so I'll put it on the Coach. I can't see how JJ plays so many minutes and why he would be in the game in the end. He should be stapled to the bench for his foul shooting alone. Last play was not good. For every hustle play he makes - and there are many - there is a lapse in judgement - and there are many. On that play, they happened simultaneously.
Looked like Colter might have been looking to feed Domo on the last play with Darius there as a backup. That didn't develop, but I have zero problem with him taking that last shot. It ended up being a great look. Given that there were only three scorers on the court for us, it was an incredible look.
By the way, the crowd sounded great. Kudos to the students and all in attendance.
