Re: VCU

This was Ferry's record at LIU - notice the overall record for at least the first five years.  Even his losing 3rd year isn't going to be close to this year at DU..  Do you really think he is going to be around for those many years?Either drop basketball altogether, or tear it down from the AD through the last coach hired and start again. I agree with DUQ81...switching leagues isn't this answer.  Do you think Ferry will have 9 years to possibly make it to the NCAA in the ATLANTIC TEN?  He won't even be able to match his 3rd year at LIU here And his 4th year was even worse and the 5th worse than that.  Really!!!  Nice hire Amodio.  I often like to say that this isn't brain surgery.  Let's go back to the bottom line.  He is not making it in this league.  The AD hired someone who isn't getting the job done and from the look of his previous school, and now in a more difficult league, isn't going to get it done here.

2002–03  Long Island  9–19
2003–04  Long Island  8–19
2004–05  Long Island  14–15
2005–06  Long Island   12–16
2006–07  Long Island   10–19
 2007–08  Long Island    15–15
2008–09    Long Island    16–14
2009–10    Long Island       14–17
2010–11     Long Island    27–6       NCAA 2nd Round
2011–12     Long Island    25–9       NCAA 2nd Round

Not to defend the job that Ferry has done, but in the NEC, you need to look at the league record, not so much the overall record. NEC teams don't get at large bids, so what they do ooc means nothing. The ooc records are often bad because those teams have to whore themselves out on the road to make money. His league record his thrid year was 10-8, 9-9 his fourth year. That is what you need to look at. He's not going to get close to 10-8 this year, which is why we're down on him. If this was a team capable of going 10-8 in the A10, they'd have won 8 or 9 games vs their weak ooc schedule.

Re: VCU

That's what gets me, how can he lose to the same teams he regularly beat, but now he has (arguably) better talent!

If he is a next level coach he should be burying the Shippensburgs by 20-30 points and regularly putting upper single, if not double digit whippings on the Robert Morrisses, the St. Francis of whatever and the New Jersey Driving College and Institute of Trucking Sciences of the world!

Agreeing with the above point that you can't count total record, but must look at conference record and record in the conference tourney, how did Ferry do against Robert Morris in his nine years in A Ball?

Re: VCU

Ok, so let's look at his league record for his first SEVEN years.
2002-2003   7-11
2003-2004   4-14
2004-2005  10-8
2005-2006   9-9
2006-2007   6-12
2007-2008  7-11

Gee, that makes me feel so much better.  He is out of his league - no pun intended!

Re: VCU

In the PG, Ferry said, “That's what's disappointing right now. We're coming close,” Duquesne coach Jim Ferry said. “We were good enough to beat Rhode Island and came up short on a (loose ball). We were good enough to beat Saint Louis on the road, and we missed our free throws. We were good enough to win this game, and we didn't.”

I thought that if you were usually good enough you usually won.  My Bad.  See his in-conference record above.

Re: VCU

I would have rather heard, " We didn't get the job done, and that will not continue at Duquesne. We must get better!"
