It seems the school is giving incentives to join the pep band which is fantastic. A pep band is an important piece of a legitimate college basketball program, and the past couple years of Duq hoops with a small/no pep band was sad to see. Even worse was how we had local high schoolers play as Duquesne's band in Brooklyn and Omaha. The school is now advertising a $30 stipend for each performance, 1 class credit per semester, a polo, and travel to postseason tournaments.

I hope to hear "Welcome Home" once again and hear that Coop crowd continue the chant when the ball is inbounded!

Looks like a fair package for the pep band members. For roughly 35 events (5 football, 15 men’s and 15 women’s basketball games), they can earn north of $4,000 in stipends and credit value.

I could never understand why this aspect of the game day experience has been so hard to execute for the University and with the students (compared to the pep bands of most other schools; many that don’t have a School of Music).

They're also advertising mascot try-outs, offering up to a $1,500 scholarship for being the duke.

Great news!  My son was in pep band while in music school and they did nothing. Was ridiculous that a university with a quality music school couldn’t or wouldn’t do better. I see Pres Gormley’s fingerprints on this.
