Having read the PG’s story on tomorrow’s expected court ruling to end, if not increase, the college sports madness, does anyone know how this is to play out?  It seems to spell doom for Duquesne sports.  Mid majors are charged more than D 1 programs?  20 million to play along in Division One?  15 scholarships for basketball, meaning no more walk ons? Huh?  This goofy portal world appears to be on course for our hell.

That sounds awful.   But we wont be alone in getting screwed over, and I would imagine some kind of backlash coming from schools like ours, and their respective fans.

Really becoming increasingly difficult for me to remain a huge fan of college sports!

Judge sort of threw up her hands. No decision today , maybe next week or so.  So many people, teams, leagues against it. I say s-can the whole thing, portal included, and start over.

I totally agree Mike. I wish we could just rewind everything. Unfortunately there’s no chance of that happening. Most of the changes were necessitated by court rulings. Some others were agreed to by the very people and institutions they’re hurting. Small schools and conferences have been placating the power conferences for years to prevent them from leaving. Seemingly the only options at this point are to try to play with the whales while being hampered by rules specifically designed to favor them or go the way of St. Francis and try to be the biggest fish in a small pond.

1,977 D-1 players in the transfer portal as of this morning. Averaging about about 5½ players per team.

Yeah I saw that. It’s just too much. HS players can’t just go. Pro players can’t just leave for another team. College? GO INSANE.

The transfer portal is full of guys looking to strike it rich, parlay their talent for that big payday before something changes that takes away their advantage.  You know that they will find a way to limit the bargaining power of these young players at some point, so strike while you hold the cards!

And when you add "the players/seniors" who have "exhausted their ability"  (Auburn had 10 ) you might be adding say 3 MORE players to the total per team- which means teams might bring the average to 9 replacements each. And present rosters were 13 (although that is going to 15).  AND the portal is still open.

On the other hand, you need like 5400 players to man all Div. 1 men's basketball teams @ 15 per roster.

I’m reading that teams will go with smaller rosters, like ten or less.  Fewer  scholarships. The bottom five, many of them walk-ons, who don’t play, won’t exist.  Makes practices difficult.  Oh, and Chad Baker is listed on next year’s Auburn roster.  Four schools. He’ll turn 26 during the season.

Well, regardless, would like to get a PG in here soon.

I wonder if Baker makes more at Auburn than he would in the Euro league?
