So, yes, expectations may need to be curbed a little. But writing a hit piece as the season review on the ones that support the team most ain't it. Duquesne Basketball fandom is a very small and tight knit group. That's the reason I love it. But. even if his observations were correct, at least sight Twitter (X) or know that every school in the country has fans who get out of sorts sometimes. That's sports, they're now professionals, and going after fans during portal recruitment is certainly not a great look. Gotta be better Zach. None of it was ever personal.

I agree with all the other posters.  I enjoy Zach’s work.  But I noticed on Twitter he does something I do not see other journalists doing.   He tweets (mainly on the WBB) side) directly to other A10 coaches or players congratulating them on certain accomplishments.   I have never seen Mike White of the PG or Tim
Benz of the Trib @ a coach or player on Twitter.

It’s one thing to tweet. “Susie Smith is the A10 Coach of the year”.    It’s another thing altogether to tweet “Congratulations to @SusieSmith A10 Coach of the year.  Great job Coach!”   I can only assume he is doing this to gain favor with the individual.

So if we need to act better according to him, he should as well.

Finally I have criticized administration at time.  I have never ever said anything about a student athletes play.   And I have fought with two other posters.  Never a student athlete.  We fight with each other more than we criticize players by far.

The article was poor.

Duquesne lands a transfer this afternoon in sophomore Jimmie Williams, a 6’5 guard from South Florida with Ohio roots.

Averaged 7.5 ppg on 40% 3PT in 18 mpg off the bench, including 16 at UTSA.

Thank you.  Pittsburgh Sports Now will do an article based off of your alert.   lol

This is disappointing news for the continued changing culture of college athletics, but even moreso for the possible effect on Dukes football; which I hadn't even thought about until DuqBlue's post. I say we send them out in style and bring back the Steel Bowl next season. I'd love to make it an annual event, but I really don't think that's in the cards. If it's done right, the big programs have no reason not to do it on at least a one-time basis. So here's my proposal for the 2025 Steel Bowl:

The four biggest programs in the area host four smaller schools in early season home games. St. Francis comes to the Coop, Robert Morris plays at the Pete, Akron plays WVU at the Coliseum, and Penn State hosts Bucknell. Then the weekend before Thanksgiving all eight teams come to PPG with winners playing winners and losers playing losers in quadrupleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. With the eight schools being in different conferences and all games being played within ten days it can be an exempt multi-team event. So the three games only count as one towards the maximum by the NCAA. Unfortunately the same team can only play in the same MTE once in a four year period. That's why I say an annual event really isn't in the cards.

There could be a City Game and Backyard Brawl in the same weekend. Coach Dru could end up coaching against his alma mater. St. Francis and Robert Morris could meet in an old conference matchup for the last time. Akron and WVU matchup in the Huggins Bowl (though something tells me he wouldn't be invited).

The four big programs get a home game, rivalries could be renewed, everyone gets to be home for Thanksgiving, and it only counts as one game for the administrators. Bring Dick's Sporting Goods in as a sponsor and there could be some decent SWAG and exposure too. It all makes too much sense not to do it. Of course in today's world that probably means the chances of it happening are next to none.

NEC football can easily recover f

Feel really sorry for the Saint Francis community.  There's a lot of old basketball tradition there; glad that they went out on a high note.

With next year's changes to the NIL (a cap of $20.5 million across all sports at a school), an A10 school is now going to have to ante up a minimum of $1,000,000 a year in NIL to compete in men's basketball at the league level.  I'm anticipating that some A10 schools will cross the $2 million threshold.  The power schools are going to be spending around $5 million in NIL to build a roster.

With these changes, I don't think that Saint Francis will be the last school getting out of the Division 1 basketball game.  It's going to be interesting to see if schools like La Salle and Fordham survive the expense to compete in the A10.  As Duikes fans, we are so very fortunate that we have Ken Gormley as president who had the vision to position Duquesne Athletics as a pillar of success for the University; and for Dave Harper's execution of the initiative.  Fasten your seatbelts; more turbulence to come.

I just hope the next president of Duquesne sees the value of athletics like Gormley did.

Gormley is staying on as Chancellor so he will still have some influence.  And I’m sure will have a role in picking the successor.

That puts the NEC auto bid in football in danger.  Or the NEC could stop kicking out schools  that want to leave and still play NEC football.   Like Sacred Heart.& Merrimack.

From DU athletics website,

“Congrats to the Dukes on their commanding win over a talented University of Miami, Ohio, team in the second round of the WNIT Tournament," Duquesne University President Ken Gormley said. "A special shout-out to Megan McConnell who made history as all-time steals leader and the second all-time scorer in the history of the Womens' Basketball program.  Next stop -- the Super 16 round of the WNIT later this week against an opponent TBD. This is an exciting year for one of the most impressive and gritty womens' basketball teams in our storied history. Let's show the country what this team is made of! Go Dukes!!!"

FWIW my statement on road was based on sources inside and outside the program, then things changed. This will be their last hosting game until likely the final four because WBB hosts the D-2 Championship. Had there been a home game, and there is, it had to be the 20th. That was known. To get Meg at least one last home game is huge and the team will pull out the stops to get as many teams on campus as possible.

Thsnks Zach. Great work by Coach Burt and the Department to get Meg a home game.

On IG it says they are hosting on Thursday vs Longwood. Unless that has changed.

DuqBlue -  You (and this board)  ARE CORRECT --   I merely jotted down what showed up on the Internet and came under the Zac..Pittsburgh.Sports site..  Can't remember Zac being off..  as I posted he even gave the reason why DU would not be hosting.

In the spirit of goodwill..  I checked out the Net Rankings .. (the organizers might have some different numbers)  DU was 125  Longwood was 251 (they got an invite apparently because they won the regular season)  winner plays Miami Ohio - Net Ranking 145.

Not a problem!!   Good luck to Coach Burt and the DU woman.   Go Dukes!
