Offline Offline Got to wonder why this is not held during the season? Offline Got to wonder why this is not held during the season? You want to promote the program before the season. This is just after the start of practice. It's actually the perfect time. You don't need distractions after the season starts. Offline I always loved the photo of Norm Nixon shooting that fade away jumper. What a player!!! Offline I always loved the photo of Norm Nixon shooting that fade away jumper. What a player!!! Yes he was! Thinking of great guards, has Mike James finally hung them up, or is he still going to try to play? Offline Not going...though I am a season tix holder I am tired of everyone living in the past...and I understand the why, we only have the past. Also get a letter from DU Advancement office asking for money...not until their men's team wins. Not much else to say that hasn't been said here for the past 3 years. Offline Sad comment. While I agree about not going to the centennial celebration, it always is painful to see Duquesne's other accomplishments being ignored because of the failure of the basketball team. Duquesne is more than baskeball. Its work as a member of the Hill District is a matter of social conscience in which we should all take pride. It academic standards continue to grow. We need to remember basketball is a sport and a university is far more. Offline We're not being asked to fund social programs in the Hill District, we're being asked to contribute to the basketball program. Many have done so for years with no tangible ROI. Offline Much of Dr D's legacy will be that he worked to build the academic and perceptual view of the University. The one point that he and the Board have failed to realize or possible to accept is the fact that a successful BB program should mean as much or more on the perceptual side. Kneeguy, much of what gets done by the university at large is lost since the current administration has totally ignored the "local" media and is constantly siting its national rankings. We are losing the local war on a multitude of fronts and that's a sad fact. As ElDuque has stated time and again the university needs a complete over haul in media relations at ALL levels. Offline El Duque, the letter from the advancement department did include athletics, but was more oriented to various academic programs, scolarhships and the campus ministry. It was more directed at the university's primary goal -- education. If you don't get that point, you are not paying much attention. Secomnd, The Dome seems to think that the current administration is relying too mucn on national rankings. I would suggest is it good we are getting some rankings. If we are losin the "local war," as he says, it is because of the weakness of local media. Take pride, folks, in what this university is. Offline That's right keep telling yourself it's the local media and their desire to keep us down. We just parted company with a AD that felt that everyone in sports media was out to get us. This form of thinking will do nothing but continue the downward spiral. Kneeguy who in the hell even reads US News & World Report? One or two runs to a NIT or NCAA would dwarf any of that as far as recognition and press. Stop thinking like a "Yenzer" and take a look at a broader perspective. Offline No, I'm not paying much attention. That's been my point for more than a year. Offline Offline Sad comment. Opening the Pharmacy in the Hill is an admirable gesture, and hopefully indicative of further involvement in the Hill District Community. I am all for that kind of social involvement, but other Universities carry on similar social projects, but also manage to compete at a high level in at least one sport (basketball). Nobody wants to see the University regularly subjected to ridicule because it can't seem to figure out how to manage it's only major sport. 1 of 1

I stopped giving money to the athletic department and started giving to a targeted academic area. I contacted key administrators and academicians to offer more than financial support. I wanted to set up an internship program, among other things. I was told, "we'll get back to you." I followed up several times. No one returned calls or emails.
Finally, I get another letter looking for money.
That's when I stopped paying attention.
