So I've been thinking long and hard about our program and after much internal debate, I think you keep playing at Rooney until you have the funds to make the stadium upgradable. Perhaps you have one game at Highmark, but I don't think having an off campus stadium for an FCS program is a legit idea. These would be my Goals if I were Harper.
1. Focus on adding two FBS schools every season to fund the program if possible. These games are win-wins for Duquesne as they improve our recruiting ability and allow our team to get that big game atmosphere. I also know that from my perspective, I get more excited to watch them. 450 grand to play is a HUGE win for the athletic dept funds and could be our niche as a program since we will never draw and make money.
2. Upgrade Rooney in a legit way. This is where things get really tricky as I am obviously not an architect, but something creative needs to be done. The Bluff view is something that can be almost as beautiful as Highmark's skyline, and we need to utilize that. I think Rhode Island's stadium should be our goal, but with the stands mostly being on the end zone sides as we don't have the space on the sidelines unfortunately.
