Naelle Bernard has entered the Transfer Portal so one scholarship becomes available. I think front court personnel is the biggest need. All in all. It was a very good season. Probably their second best A10 season. I don’t know who is coming in. But I’m sure we will be active in the portal. DuqBlue: If No One Leaves - DU has NO Scholarships to give or Portal Players to sign - The team started with one scholarship available when Dea Pushkoli left - Selma Kulo is leaving due to injuries this was noted on Senior Day - add Lauren, Amaya, Precious and Ayanna and there are 6 spots left. The team has signed Mackenzie Blackford a 5'7 SG, Reina Green a 5'8 CG (she is a one year JUCO PLayer) Kellie McConnell 5'5 PG (Megan's Cousin) Nadia Moore a 5'8 PG Fatou Sane a 6'1W and Faith Walker a 6'0W. Team is going to need Kaitlyn Adams and/or Kiandra Brown (HOPEFULLY BOTH) to step up. Per Live Stats Purdue kind of ran away with it in the 4th quarter - Jen had 17 points. Tip Off Time is 7PM Purdue's net ranking is 72 (VCU is 71) DU is 125 to give us an idea about the match up Lauren hits a 3 and 6 free throws (got filed twice while attempting threes to force overtime - Team escaped with s 69-65 win that was too close for comfort. I never understood why we ever gave up the cheer to begin with... We've all heard of 'retired numbers" at the Palumbo Center there was a "RETIRED SEAT" in honor of Mossie It's been a TERRIFIC run but they are just too good and too athletic - Clark is perhaps the only player we have that is capable of defending against these guys - some of the bigs might block some shots but the rest of the team just aren't quick enough to stop a dribble drive or strong enough to stop the one on one moves when they pound the ball inside and back their way in. Rumor has it another local guy may be available, Coach Calipari may think hard about coming here. There, I threw my BS rant into the arena, now I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the Dukes TONIGHT, and worry about the future tomorrow. The TAXES on Coach Cal's Salary might be more than the COMPENSATION some schools might offer. One thing about Coach Calipari AT LEAST HE IS HONEST -- He candidly admits his job is to prepare his recruits for the NBA none of this sanctimonius BS we here from some other coaches who talk about their "Student Athletes" and one week after their last game the players "withdraw from classes" to prepare for the NBA As the Immortal (or Immoral) Phil Musick might have said WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THUNK IT???? WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! Did anybody notice when the halftime show was on Kenny Smith had Duquesne winning!!! Great to extend the season - heard a lot of "Cinderella Stories" but NOT ONE WAS DUQUESNE!!! John Warner former player was in one of my classes class participation/attendance was 10% of the grade - the instructor told him at the start of the semester that he would NOT be marked absent when traveling with the team - so the 3 games in Philly for the Eastern 8 championship and the game the following week against VMI... At least the women can take some consolation on the fact that they were the ONLY A-10 team to beat Richmond. Last year the Women's NIT had a 64 team field so hopefully there will be an invitation extended. Women Struggled Shooting Wise most of the game and fell short. Hopefully their body of work (20 wins and A-10 semi-finals are enough to earn a post season berth. In addition to the WNIT there is another post season tournament U Mass edged LaSalle - The Women will take on UMass at 1:30 PM tomorrow Team lost to St. Joes - they play the winner of the U Mass- LaSalle game in their tournament opener According to the Website there are 5 seniors who will be honored today - Precious, Amaya, Ayanna, Lauren and Selma Kulo - Selma never played a game at Duquesne - She was at Western Kentucky for two years and Duquesne for 2 years so it is possible she accumulated enough credits to earn a degree and perhaps some injuries she may have suffered were severe enough to stop her from playing - Based on the commitments DU has for incoming freshmen they will be at the scholarship limit - and if none of the other players enter the portal they would not be able to sign any additional players. LETS SEND THE SENIORS OUT ON A POSITIVE NOTE IN THEIR LAST HOME GAME. Davidson has announced they are cancelling their season due to numerous injuries and will not be playing in the A-10 Tournament - They had gotten off to a fine start before all the injuries occurred Perhaps DU should de-emphasize major college athletics - be more like Carnegie Mellon (They DO have a basketball team) The school would continue to offer the Duquesne Education to any athlete who desires one going forward recruit STUDENT-ATHLETES as opposed to ATHLETE-STUDENTS. Spare me the "Gonzaga Argument" where there is the talk about how admissions etc increase due to the quality of the basketball team - I will counter with the "Indiana Argument" when Bob Knight was terminated - contributions/donations to the athletic department declined - it was MORE THAN OFFSET by increases to the University as a whole. Perhaps more attention should be given to Andy the Accountant and Paula the Pharmacist as opposed to Joann the Jump Shooter and Raymond the Rebounder. Now there's a thought. Hartford (about 6000 students) went from D-1 to D-3 and St. Francis (NY) (about 2500 students) dropped intercollegiate athletics altogether. They're still in business. Besides, how many current students came to Duquesne becsuse of successful sports teams? When I initially read your post it was in my opinion total heresy. I still disagree that the Dukes should drop down. But your point about the students receiving aid is in my opinion valid. I can guarantee that those accountants, pharmacists, doctors, lawyers, etc… will give back to the University. These basketball players don’t give 💩about the University. Oh my bad the football players, soccer etc indeed give back. I still believe in this basketball program based upon the leadership of Gormley. Go Dukes.👍 According to the Internet DU has an enrollment of 8,100 - undergraduate and graduate students - I was attempting to look at a scenario where the decision might be best for the 8,100 as opposed to the 30 on the 2 basketball teams. Perhaps DU should de-emphasize major college athletics - be more like Carnegie Mellon (They DO have a basketball team) The school would continue to offer the Duquesne Education to any athlete who desires one going forward recruit STUDENT-ATHLETES as opposed to ATHLETE-STUDENTS. Perhaps more attention should be given to Andy the Accountant and Paula the Pharmacist as opposed to Joann the Jump Shooter and Raymond the Rebounder. One of the reasons Davidson has tailed off somewhat is they lost one of their best players (Deegan??) for the season. Last year several teams from the A-10 received bids to the WNIT - don't know how much that might change with the new rules but if the team continues to play well even if they don't run the table in the league tourney perhaps they CAN get a post season invitation which would be rewarding for the senior class. How is that GW team 3-12. I have watched three games with the GW woman and don’t understand that. I don’t wish to see them again in A10 tournament. Did not get either St. Joes had a horrid second half and lost. St. Bonnie played GMU tight but lost in the last minute well balanced attack18 for Meg, 13 for Jen, 12 for Amaya and Ayanna, 10 for Precious and 9 for Naelle. GW looked much better than a team with 3 A-10 wins. Team has a week off to enjoy and prepare for Richmond They beat St. Louis 82-65. St. Louis had been playing somewhat better at home lately and they had some players whom I thought might be match up problems. VERY balanced scoring for DU 13 for Naelle 12 for Tess,Ayanna, Precious 10 for Megan, 9 for Lauren 8 for Amaya and 6 for Jen. It SEEMED in the first half St. Louis got a ton of offensive rebounds getting multiple chances and that was the way they kept somewhat close but DU won the TOTAL Rebounding battle. Final score was 66-50 - After 3 quarters it was 58-32 - Team got somewhat sloppy in the 4th quarter as some regulars were still in . Megan was SENSATIONAL in the first half she was 5-5 from 3 point range - In the middle of the second quarter when the team had 20 points she had 18 of them. She wound up with 20 points 13 rebounds. Jen Kiaku played perhaps her best game as a Duke and there were several nice Pick and Rolls were Precious shot 6-7 from the field. But 25 turnovers gets you killed most nights. St Louis has played well the last few games and being on the road can cause problems.
CONGRATULATIONS COACH DRU JOYCE III

Question I have is when did we stop using the cheer? When did the cheer die?
Was it when Mossie died or was it because Dukes moved to Cooper Fieldhouse??
Living afar from Duquesne (Florida & Cali) ... I have not been able to catch the Dukes accept thru media over the years, so I can not attest when this cheer died?!
I say bring the cheer back, have it recorded if need be.... and played during the home games!!!!!
Let GO Dukes !!!!!

I know EVERY team has their injuries but I can't help but wonder if Lauren had been healthy from day 1 if they might have won a few more in the non-conference schedule even though she comes off the bench and sometimes only plays 10 minutes or so.
