Building was loud. There seems like a new spirit returning to DU. Team worked through the two week layoff and made plays in the crunch. Lauren’s 8 free throws never touched the rim. Go Dukes!

It took the trolls all of 20 hours to start to attack again. Sad. I intend to celebrate our Dukes for the next 47 years. Hooray for the Red and Blue.

Honor the man! Have a reception at Cooper a week or so after the tournament. Let the fans celebrate the man. Congratulations to Keith. Well done on a great career.

This team has won 9 of the last 10 and are remarkably improved on both the offensive and defensive ends. The offense is moving the ball and working through the post players who are delivering. This opens up the three ball and again, the production is there. The biggest improvement is on the defensive end. In the current 5 game winning streak, mid 60s and less have been given up. Ball pressure, digs, doubles and even an occasional press have really been effective. Rebounding has been better. And, Megan is a tremendous engineer to drive the train. The coaches have done a tremendous job in remaking the team concepts. The Dukes are a legitimate threat. Go Dukes!

The huge difference for the game was that the Dukes played a zone defense, forced Dayton to shoot the three and rebounded exceptionally well against one of the nation’s top rebounding teams. A very good win.

This team is giving up way too many points via soft defense.

This game has meaning in that Coach and players visit the LeBron school as a give back and play in his community as a thank you. Went to a couple of these games. It is a worthwhile endeavor built in the Duquesne tradition of servant leadership. Sacrificing the stream for one game is fine.

Thanks, Fam! I totally support Dan Burt and you are right in that execution makes the difference. Better execution means better results. That is my hope for the defense and better consistency in the lineup. Dan Burt will make adjustments. Go Dukes!

The women lost a heartbreaker on a made shot by Bowling Green as the clock expired. There was plenty to discuss from this game as there was good, bad and ugly.

The good:
*Amaya Hamilton - Took by the game over as the Dukes roared back from a 9 point halftime deficit. Dukes opened up the middle for her and she carried them in the second half.
*Megan McConnell - Just does it all with a Double/Double. Great defender and leader. Simply an all league player.
*Coaching adjustment - In the third quarter, the team went small (4 guards and Hamilton). As mentioned, they let Hamilton use both the high and low posts and she delivered. BG had no answer for Hamilton and Dukes outscored their opponent by 16.
*Nae Bernard - She contributed points, so I will place her here. A little better shot selection and her contributions would go up.

The bad:
*The two Senior Bigs are really struggling on both offense and defense. One continually misses short shots and the other looks totally lost in an offense that is pretty much free flow rather than more structured sets. Neither plays good defense or rebounds well. Both foul a lot.
*The defense lacks continuity. There is no on-ball pressure except for McConnell and Hamilton. They continually go “under” screens allowing for easy perimeter shots and easy cuts to the basket. The effort is there, but the defense simply is not physical enough.
*This team shoots a lot of threes. That’s OK, but a good team is in the 35% to 38% range. Not the case with our Dukes. The team’s best shooter is in a season long slump. Without her scoring, the team struggles.
*After 5 games, a line-up change is needed. McConnell, Hamilton and Bernard are givens. Brown needs to be inserted into the starting five. She simply did not play enough against BG. Ammons was on the floor yesterday for about two minutes and she affected three plays defensively. Play her over the two senior bigs, who should have reduced playing time. Myers will find her shot, but tak

Kiandra gave the Dukes an inside physical presence. They need one more. Perhaps K. Ammons will be next to get an opportunity.

Quick observations:
1. The three key players for Cleveland State could easily play in A10 and perhaps be stars.
2. Jimmy Clark has point guard chops - 8 assists. Keep the ball in his hands.
3. The bigger lineups played better.
4. The Drame Twins are a bundle of energy whose hard work was great to see.
5. David Dixon is a difference maker. Hope he gets fully healthy soon.
6. Lots of free throw shooting in practice needed this week.
7. Stew leading cheers  was awesome.
8. We are 1-0, now let’s go get Charleston.

If Coach doesn’t go big with Savrasov and Williams/Drame/Dixon (when healthy), then that is a huge mistake. Rozier still needs to be the spark plug off the bench. Go BIG! I go with Clark, Grant, Savrasov, Williams (until Dixon is ready), and F. Drame as the starters against Cleve. St.

Due to his talent level, defensive presence, and experience, I think Jimmy Clark III will be the starting point guard. Dixon, Duson, and Barre hopefully will be ready, but If not, Tre Williams gives a tough minded kid in the middle. Savrasov is going to be a horse. I think Jacob Necas will be the surprise. Looking for good things from the deepest team we have had in years.

Actually, I think Duquesne might be better positioned for a Big East slot than many hope to dream. Our long losing aside, we have a desirable Big East market, good relationships with Dayton and St. Louis, and history with most members. We need to get to the NCAA and look promising. We will be mentioned when the Big East expands.

Easily Savrasov. Can play all three forward positions. Strong post-up player. Nice three point shot. Could be a 16 point, 8 rebound type of guy on given nights.

Kids develop at different paces. This young man is quick, plays D, and has improved his jump shot. He easily dunks the ball. He will get stronger as he matures. He reminds me of all of the small guards Richmond has had over the past years as I watch his videos. The Columbus city league is good. Thinking he is a good one.

Good thread!

I like the idea of 2 guards and 3 bigs. Not many A10 teams do that and it could have an impact in league play.

I like Coach Charles, but when the handwriting is on the wall, you do what is best for you. If it is to be Coach Dru, I am glad he is here already contributing to the culture.

As for the lack of info, I have already stated numerous times that it is plain laziness on behalf of the AD and his info department. The only way that changes is if President Gormley (who is doing a tremendous job) kicks them in the butt.

I am glad for CLK and the regular contributors to this forum or it would be absolutely impossible to be a Dukes fan during the summer months. Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.
