I’m reading that teams will go with smaller rosters, like ten or less.  Fewer  scholarships. The bottom five, many of them walk-ons, who don’t play, won’t exist.  Makes practices difficult.  Oh, and Chad Baker is listed on next year’s Auburn roster.  Four schools. He’ll turn 26 during the season.

Judge sort of threw up her hands. No decision today , maybe next week or so.  So many people, teams, leagues against it. I say s-can the whole thing, portal included, and start over.

Having read the PG’s story on tomorrow’s expected court ruling to end, if not increase, the college sports madness, does anyone know how this is to play out?  It seems to spell doom for Duquesne sports.  Mid majors are charged more than D 1 programs?  20 million to play along in Division One?  15 scholarships for basketball, meaning no more walk ons? Huh?  This goofy portal world appears to be on course for our hell.

I too met him in Omaha. After the loss, I told him I thought he was the heart and soul of the team. Hugged.  Just from a leadership perspective, this is a terrible loss.

I’m far away, but why are the big guys and the rest of the quality kids going away?  Some to lower level schools.  Is it all about the money?   Is Duquesne not recruiting locally?

Necas, you have to become more on offense.  You’re a good hard worker, but your offense is catch and pass, or take a wide open three.   Drive to the rim with your size; score or get fouled.  Get some mid-range going.   You are too skilled to be simply a pass conduit. Go get you some!

Bad team on offense.  Open looks clanks. Not as much talent as I figured.  Or…is an exorcism in order?

Men's Basketball » Duquesne Picked 8th » 10/09/2024 12:59 pm

I met Kareem in Omaha. Great kid. If I may, he needs to add a floater to his game; something he can get off from the key. He doesn’t seem to have a problem getting there, he’s lightning quick, but finishing at the rim is not his game.

I read DK every day.  His coverage of the pro teams in Pittsburgh is unsurpassed. He’s also the city’s best sports writer, and, uh, a Duquesne graduate.  Go look at the Duquesne site today.

Cooper’s probably making more than 12 million at Duke. Bronny made big bucks at USC from Nike and a slew of other deep pockets   It ain’t your daddy’s NCAA anymore.  Alas.

Men's Basketball » Bronny, last chance, come to Duquesne and make a name for yourself » 5/29/2024 3:48 pm

Not that I think Bronny’s coming, but to Phoenix’s point, what’s to stop him from going to college? Rules?  What rules? NCAA rules? Are there any rules these days?
He and his pappy could both play for Duquesne.  Who can/would stop them?

James has until May 29 to decide to stay in the draft or not.  So this isn’t as over as has been stated.  Still, I agree with the above sentiments.  The problem is - he’s really good. Saw him on high school and he was a standout during the McDonalds game.  The young man had serious heart issues.  You take the year off, not show up and play UCLA. Good luck to Bronny and his dad, who showed much kindness to his lifelong friend and our team.

I don’t think young Mr. James will need a scholarship. He can walk on.  I believe with his existing NIL and his family, he will not suffer.  Consider the pain that the local news will suffer, actually having to cover Duquesne!

I had a great time in Omaha.  Had occasion to meet AD and new coach and several of the kids.  I could go on with this or that, but all this chatter about Lebron?  No one here knows that he’s anything but a friend and a fan. I have very wealthy powerful friends in my business, but that’s what they are. What is it - he sent shoes?  And thus you assume he’s a major donor, or sending his kids to   Duquesne.  Get real.  The whole Lebron thing is in your head not his or our perfectly capable new coach’s.

You know, somewhere there must be a video or film of Mossie in action. And in these days of AI it might be possible to reconstruct the whole shebang.  As in on the video boards at the Coop.   I  mean nobody minds that the actual band Styx doesn’t play at Steelers games.  Actually, such a recreation could be done several ways.   Hmm.

The cheerleaders did not lead the cheer in Omaha.   A fan just below me did.  He didn’t quite get it right, but doing it was so right. He got the already rocking crowd rolling.  Congrats to him and all those in Omaha. I still cannot talk being horse from the games.

We are here.  We tore it up as fans.  We greeted the Dukes off the bus at the hotel.  We are here Saturday. Come. And by the way, come down to the bar and announce yourself. I am the guy with grey hair with my buddy Norm Nixon.
