Who isn't!!!  I'm anticipating having a better team this coming season than this past year regardless of who we sign and when we sign them. Hope I'm right!!

Men's Basketball » Bronny to enter NBA Draft and Transfer Portal » 4/05/2024 1:27 pm

This is way better than "As the World Turns"!!
Meanwhile, we do need lots more than Bronny James here.
Hoping Dru and staff are working overtime to ensure that we get what we need regardless of whatever happens with Bronny Jr. If he does come here, it's undoubtedly a one and done. He may not be all that relevant to our future success other than we can say Bronny was here.
However it goes.... Let's Go Druquesne!!

Mossie was great alright. I had the pleasure of playing for a wedding for one of his kids many years ago. I remember it so well since when I came out of the PAA in Oakland after the gig, my car had been stolen!
Anyway, a real character in the best sense of the word!! Are you ready?  A resounding YES!! Let's go Duquesne!!

I can see we are getting pretty revved up!!!!!!
The important thing is that we are in Omaha with a puncher's chance to advance.
Congrats to KD, staff, and players for a great finish to the season!!
Great fun!
I also want to wish KD and Donna all the best and many happy years together!!
Really more significant than the game to me.
Having said that...GO DUKES..BEAT BYU's BRAINS OUT!!!!!!

I believe that there is a huge amount of frustration on the part of so many of the "oldsters" on this board, including me ('69) that it has a negative impact on many of our posts. The "youngsters" on the board could not possibly understand. Only those who have been following the Dukes for 40 or 50 plus years. All most of us want to see is an NCAA appearance before we leave this world. KD is a good basketball coach. I know this to be true. But we have not reached the promise land. Still wandering in the desert albeit getting closer.
Will it be this year? Truly hoping so. Not impossible for sure. Need to play our best basketball on both ends of the court. It can be done. GO DUKES!!!

What is noteworthy to me is how the world of college basketball has changed so much that having a lame duck coach this late in the season is not the unthinkable disaster it would have been even 3 years ago.

The huge negative impact on recruiting that this situation would have had in the past is rendered mute by the fact that the portal now forces programs to rebuild the roster annually.

KD's job status has to be the main reason that there has been so little recruit visit/offer traffic over the last 6 months but, it just isn't that big of deal in today's "market".

This is all true. However, it may be a moot point as KD can certainly have the HC job here next year if he chooses.
I have not always been a huge KD booster, especially when we have seen many games lost that many believed could have had a different outcome. Couple that with the extreme turnover in players over the years. However, having said all that, this team right now is playing better IMO than any Dukes team that I've seen on KD's watch. It's fun to watch, even entertaining. And if I'm being entertained by watching Duquesne basketball more so now than most times in the recent past, then why mess with it. We know that we can do worse. We've seen enough of it over the years for sure. Let's see how the season plays out before passing a final judgement. Just sayin'.

The Dukes need to come out with & maintain the highest level of experience energy tonight in order to win. Thus is a very tough opponent.

I really hope Rozier is not starting & is used sparingly. The offense simply dies when he runs things in the half-court.

Couldn't agree more with this. 10 minutes max.
I will take Dusan for 15-20 though.

There is one out of range factor. Clark killed this team last year. He really doesn't like them and they could not contain him.  I still think, Clark does not like them and they just may not be able to stop him. I really hope Clark still doesn't like them that bad. Go Dukes.

Great game last year. Sat behind two VCU fans. Clark stole the ball, went up and bounced it off the glass, caught it and slammed it home. One turned to the other and said, "We used to have this guy."

Men's Basketball » Game Thread - George Mason University Patriots » 3/03/2024 10:55 am

As I pointed out in an earlier post, I totally believe that Dusan's presence on the court and continued contribution is imperative to any success the Dukes will have. I know he has seemed out of place at times and a half step behind the play, but taking all into consideration, I'd like to see 25 minutes a game from him. I don't believe that he was brought here to play 5 -10 minutes. Looked reasonably good yesterday and, again, needs to play as much as possible IMO. Kudos to the Dukes yesterday for a great road win even though GM was shorthanded. A win is a win. GO DUKES!!!

A most interesting thought!

Really Like what Dusan brings to the court. Believe his ability to stay on the court is integral to Dukes success moving forward. Hoping he has the opportunity to get some significant minutes here on out. For me, 10-15 minutes is not enough from him even given a defensive lapse now and again. Play Dusan more minutes.

I would be most sorry to see the HC position go to Dru Joyce without so much as a valid search for a qualified replacement. Really can't imagine that I'm alone in that thinking. Isn't the program worth a hard look at what qualified candidates might be available. Whoever is hired, assuming KD retires, will be around for at least 4 or 5 years no matter what so let's try to get it right this time. I will never accept that DU basketball can't be among the best programs in the A-10 and the eastern part of the country.  If this is not the case, please someone set me straight and tell me why not.
As for changing conferences, I don't believe in running away from a challenge. Let's kick some ass in the A-10!!
GO DUKES!!!

I feel scared watching Dixon play, it just seems like when, not if, he goes down with that knee.   I sure hope he is okay, he's my favorite player.

It is strange to see comments about other people's comments from day(s) ago, even after a win.   Y'all just cant let anything go around here.   50 years of frustration I guess.

Truly hope that Dixon finishes his college career here at DU. He is the most improved player that I've seen under KD and certainly a most valuable member of this current team!

I'm not miserable but sometimes I do have to try and force myself to be positive about this Dukes team. A 16-11 record is so far from what I was expecting along with most on this board. It is evident by now that this team can beat lots of average to slightly above average teams but can also lose to every single one of those same teams. This from an eternal optimist. Sure, I hope that we can make a run but in no way do I truly expect to see it. Just seen too much flat-out disappointing basketball not only this year but other years as well to expect anything more than what we are getting. Hoping against hope that we see something more from whomever inherits this program.  Having said all the aforementioned --GO DUKES!!

To me if we take out all emotion and focus on numbers and results, the facts really do speak for themselves.

Stats are a fairly accurate representation of what has transpired in games. The more games considered, the more accurate the stats will invariably be.

This is a huge must win tonight and there is no reason why the Dukes should not prevail.
They simply have more and deeper talent.
As to Dru Joyce, I have no idea how he would coach the Dukes. There may be more qualified candidates for the head coaching job here but certain there are many of those who would not be interested without a sizable salary increase closer to 2 million per year. Say 1.8 maybe. It's all speculation at this point. Right?

Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Saint Joseph's University Hawks (H) » 2/19/2024 12:42 pm

Dixon may be showing more improvement than any player that I've seen on the bluff in many a year. Whether it's coaching or just hard work on David's part, or a combination of both, it is truly good to see and his free throw percentage is rising like a hot air balloon. Grant is off the charts with his foul shooting and I have to believe it's simply a matter of extra effort in the gym. We have other players who are not showing the same improvement in areas of their game. Maybe they need to spend just a bit more time in the gym sharpening their skills?

If you take the fouls and the free throw shooting out of it, over the last 6 minutes, here are the stats:

Dayton 12-0 Run
Duquesne 0-8 FG
Duquesne 4 Turnovers
Dayton 5 Offensive Rebounds

The officials could have left the building with 6 minutes to go and Duquesne still would have lost.

Dayton beat Duquesne. And they did it because they played great down the stretch and we did not. But don’t act like the refs had nothing to do with it?!?! They continuously went the free throw line while the Dukes got no calls. They made the FTs. But if a few of those fouls aren’t called they are empty possessions and the Dukes possibly get momentum and don’t have to face the press on an inbound pass. The call on Rozier just bad and I think Dae Dae getting run over while taking a forearm to chest and getting called for a foul was terrible. They executed and took advantage of a very lopsidedly called game. The Dukes could not overcome. I’m not blaming the refs for the loss but it would have been nice to see how things would have played out if the Dukes got a couple calls and Dayton wasnt getting a whistle on every possession

There is no question that the foul calls were lopsided in favor of Dayton, however, I struggle with the concept that the refs were part of a big conspiracy by the A10 to insure a Dayton win.  Maybe I am naive, but I see the same referees officiating in other leagues.  Are they really under the control of the A10?

{ give the coaching staff credit, they had a great game plan going into the game, and executed well for the first 33 minutes.  With 6 plus minutes to go the Dukes were up 4, and Dambrot had three time outs left. and then the  wheels fell off.  From that point on there were no visible signs of coaching.  Many may disagree, but I am just trying to be honest.  My hope is that the Dukes move on, finish with a winning record in the League, and make a run in the Tournament.

This Dukes team, IMHO, is capable of winning against any A-10 team left on our schedule, with the possible exception of Dayton. Unfortunately, it's also capable of losing to those same teams. Definitely a team that plays up to or down to the level of competition for the most part. I really can't figure the team out. There is a level of inconsistency with most of the players on our team which I really haven't seen that much of before. Is it just a quirky thing with the players that we have or is it something to do with the coaching and mental preparedness? I really thought this team was a cinch to win over 20 games like most on this board. Now, I wonder if that is even a realistic possibility at this point. Call me totally frustrated! Was planning on attending the Davidson game but just getting over a cold and decided to watch on ESPN+ from my sofa. A truly fortuitous decision looking back on it. That game could have sent me to the ER at Mercy. I never give up on the team, but I am grasping for straws to find anything encouraging at this juncture of the season. I find myself constantly thinking about the future of the program more than I do the current season. This is most likely the most disappointing. season that I may have witnessed, and I go back to the mid-sixties and Willie Somerset's final year on the Bluff. There have been others, but this one seems the worst right now. Can we ever get this program where we think it could be!?!?

Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Davidson University Wildcats » 2/08/2024 12:30 pm

Really disappointing loss for sure the other night. Thought we should and would win this one. Of course, when your 2 leading scorers don't score, all bets are off. I too liked the zone and have believed for some time that it should be deployed more. At any rate, it will be interesting to see what transpires for the rest of the season and after the entire season has run its course. As I've said here before, I'm not a fan of a particular coach though I've had my favorites, but a fan of Duquesne Dukes basketball. Let's do what has to be done to get this program where we all want to see it. GO DUKES!!
