I was at the game last night. There are lots of wrinkles to iron out for sure. But the adjustments Coach Dambrot made throughout the game was a refreshing change from the " Let's hope they miss" coaching style from last year. Considering Mike Lewis and JRob had a "less than a stellar" performance and the first half free throws were very bad, the mid game adjustments helped to turn things around. Having a coach that can identify problems and make adjustments mid game is another weapon in the arsenal. You can rest assured that coach Dambrot will be working on getting the team off to a better start which includes better free throws and 3s. The talent is there, the coaching is there and the "one team concept" is well on its way. I heard that J Rob was injured and not available. No clue about Castro. Not that J Rob was being played when he was healthy..... I agree that getting personal is not good. It serves no real purpose. Having said that, I could not care about coach Ferry's feelings. He is a grown man. In any case he is the 'former' coach. The 'family' environment was a buzz phrase. There was very little evidence to prove such an environment actually existed. I point to the many pressers during which Coach Ferry deflected the blame for losses onto his players. That is but one example. Hopefully the next coach will establish a real family environment. This alone will be a major win for the Dukes. Good news for JROB. I guess not being played exempts him from being accused of having weak defensive skills or whatever horse pucky Coach Ferry is selling. Unbelievable! You are very right about needing stability, depth and quality to build a program. This is why the whole "JRob" situation is beyond baffling. It is haunting. Anybody ever hear anything bad about Robinson? Suspensions, grades, attitude etc..? I have not. If I were J Rob I would be transferring after this year. He could be a double double machine . This was written on December 1, 2016 in another post. Oddly enough, JRob's numbers are exactly that, 20 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes. Unfortunately those 32 minutes have occurred over 5 games. Just watched the post game presser. "...Jordan needs to improve defensively..." "....hard to play Jordan....". Once again, Coach Ferry has put his dislike for JRob above the team. Anybody who watched the game last night saw the level of destruction JRob inflicted on UMBC. Zero turnovers, 1 PF, 3 rebounds (2 offensive), 1 block, 1 assist to go along with 8 points......in 9 minutes?! I have no doubt that Coach Ferry gets 'thank you' notes from opposing coaches for leaving JRob on the bench. I no longer watch The Big Bang Theory. If I want to laugh until I cry, I simply watch Coach Ferry's post game pressers. kentucky is a big team and JRob barely played. Robinson was double teamed yesterday and still scored. Coach Ferry's reasons for limiting JRob's time are very weak. Now the press is starting to ask specific questions about JRob. We will soon see if Coach Ferry will put the team ahead of his issue with JRob. The Dome posted something about JRob giving the Dukes an offensive lift. But one missed shot landed JRob back on the bench. Not even an 18-0 run by Cleveland was enough to prompt Coach Ferry to put Jrob back in the game. I do not believe Coach Ferry cares about winning at all. What is his issue with Robinson? Because it seems his issue with JRob is bigger than his desire to win. Clearly. Relieve Coach Ferry of his duties immediately. Let the assistant coach take over (he could not do any worse). Start using more of the bench ( J ROB) and begin running plays around the Bigs as well as the guards. By the way, in addition to stifling JRob's playing career by burying him at the end of the bench, they keep listing JRob as 6'8" when he is actually 6'9". Coach Ferry has no clue that his players have grown. Ridiculous!! Dear Jim Ferry. Please do not put J ROB back in. His style of play would really mess with whatever strategy you have. Anybody who has been watching the numbers closely can confirm that J. Rob has been one of the top point producers the past 3 years. If you crunch the numbers based on points per minute J. Rob has been averaging around. 0.45 points/ minute. Consistently. That ranks up there with Micah, DC or whoever you choose. That means every 2 minutes J. Rob plays he gets 1 point. Last year during the CBI tourney J. Rob got 17 points in 18 minutes. That is the guy Coach Ferry wants sitting on the bench?! Really?! Have you ever seen J.Rob back down or show any fear against any player or team? I have not. Shame on Coach Ferry for wasting a talent and depriving the Dukes fans of an opportunity to watch this kid in action. For those of you who were looking for J Rob he was sitting on the bench getting zero playing time while freshmen and walk ons continue to play. Phildog made a great point. "We could have adjusted to a low post game..." Why did we not do that? I mentioned how other coaches make adjustments when J Rob steps on the court. But yet Coach Ferry makes no adjustments during the game. He did this last year and years before that as well. If the talent was not available then I could understand. But the talent is sitting on the bench. This is what makes J Rob's game even more impressive. He comes into these games cold and tight and is able to generate significant points. Imagine if the Dukes had a coach that knew how to switch to a low post game. Robinson would be a double double threat every game and we would be a serious A10 contender. Instead we are in for another season of 'Let's Hope They Miss" (LHTM). Credit to the person who first posted it. I agree 100% that Ferry does not understand the value of tall basketball player. But it goes much deeper than that. Ferry could not recognize special players let alone develop them. It is one thing to have talent but it is another thing to have a 'presence' on the court. That is what J Rob brings to the table. Opposing teams adjust their defense or remove their 'bigs' from the court when J Rob makes a rare court appearance. I have seen it happen. TV commentators have described J Rob as a "true post player". Penn St. Game is the latest example. 6 minutes/6 points. J Rob hit a jumper and even scored while double teamed then sat down on the bench the rest of the game. Please explain how that makes sense. I was hoping for a very good season from the Dukes boys. But once again I see the best player on the roster sitting on the bench. Coach Ferry is unreal! Why is J Rob continually sitting on the bench? The best player on the team the past 2 years and there he sits on the bench. As this team continues to lose to D2 teams and show zero energy or uninspired wins, the big man from Toronto sits and watches. Unreal. Pack a lunch Dukes faithful! It going to be a long, painful season.......again. As I have been saying, J Rob came into the Rhode Island game, played 90 seconds and was never heard from again. I said he would ride the pines for the next 4 games at least. It has already been 2. Somebody earlier was talking about defense and Coach Ferry has a talented big sitting on the bench. J Rob has only played in 18 games for an average of 7.7 minutes per game. What does Ferry have against this guy? Last year somebody posted a comment about chasing Canadians away. I am starting to think they are right. As for Mason and Colter, I mentioned in another post that they are burning out. Another 38 minutes each. As predicted, no sign of J. Rob. Even with the starters in foul trouble. See you in about 3 or 4 games. And probably for a total of 90 seconds of playing time. I am certain that J Rob is big enough for Coach Ferry to see. There is only so long you will be able to keep the big man on the sidelines. Speaking of not "playing the Bigs" as mentioned by heelsdukesfan, what is the likelihood of J Rob playing tomorrow at St. Bona? If he does step on the court, will he be out there longer than 90 seconds? In the past, Coach Ferry has gone up to 8 games straight without playing him. J Rob rode the pines for 4 games before he stepped on the court against Rhode Island . We will know by this time tomorrow night. I feel for the players. Especially the Seniors. They have worked hard and given their all to their team. I know these men do not like losing. You can see it in their faces. They are fierce competitors. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the coaching staff. They have let their players down. During the brief moment Robinson was on the court ( less than 2 minutes) one announcer commented that he is a 'true post player'. Then, as quickly as he arrived, Robinson was gone. Never to be heard from the rest of the game. How can the announcer quickly figure out the quality of play Robinson brings to his team but coach Ferry cannot? You are right to say that coach Ferry only trusts his starters. I would consider this to be an insult to his bench players. I just hope that his trusted players do not burn out. I believe it is already starting. Hopefully I am wrong. Robinson: 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist in 2 minutes Will Jim Ferry finally start doing what his title says and 'Coach'? Early in the season he was more receptive to using more of his bench. And with great success. Not only were they winning but the team was upbeat, confident and functioning as a strong cohesive unit. A large part of 'coaching' has to do with getting the most out each player. The Dukes have more than enough talent to hold leads against any team provided the right combinations are on the floor at the right time. The season is not lost provided 'coaching' strategies change. Use your bench! The players are working very hard each game. The fact that the team keeps blowing leads in the second half would lead me to believe that they are tired. When you are tired you make mental mistakesl. As much as I admire Colter and Mason for their efforts, they are not machines. You cannot keep pushing these guys 40+ minutes each game and be shocked when they come up short. I do not understand how Jim Ferry cannot recognize this and use more of his bench. They are healthy and eager to contribute. Nobody has been able to explain why J Rob has not played the last 4 games. You break down his numbers by the minutes played and he ranks right up there with the starters. But he is sitting on the bench. Even when the starters are in foul trouble and foul out they seem reluctant to play him. I know there are teams who can win with the same 7 players but the Dukes are not one of those teams.

Sanders: 2 points, 1 offensive rebound in 4 minutes
Jackson: 3 points, 1 steal in 4 minutes
How can you look at these numbers and not wonder why they are not utilized more? Especially Robinson who is very consistent but very seldom used. Do not forget that these players are coming off the bench cold but still find a way to contribute. The Dukes have all the tools necessary to succeed. Unfortunately they are in the hands of an apprentice.
