Welcome to SHOO-SHOO, RAH-RAH! The Duquesne Dukes Basketball Fan Message Board!
One of America's Great Message Boards - Any Inappropriate Posts Will Be Deleted!
I really can't add anything of substance at this point. Everyone on this board is well aware of the situation. I would say that the "basketball IQ" seems totally lacking here. Most of the bad stuff is simply dumb on court actions that defy description! I too think that DJlll can and MAYBE will develop his coaching abilities and skills as he gains more experience but for now what we are seeing is truly a "Nightmare on Forbes Ave." Didn't have season tickets the last couple of years due to my work schedule but picked one heck of a year to re-up!!! Would be shocked to see Bryce enrolling at Duquesne. Suggest that little time be eaten up on this. There are many excellent recruits available, and we should be focusing on them and not lose time chasing after pipe dreams. Would be great to get him though!! LOL. BTW I am now using my original handle of "president" having been locked out in some way. Glad to be myself again! I do agree with other posters on the board. KD often speaks about the five most talented players vs. the five players to have on the floor who create the best team chemistry. Obviously, EW Jr. was not a good fit in that regard. I view his departure as a plus going forward. Really a shame that things didn't work out for him here. Wish him the best! Doe anyone know if James Ellis has 4 full years of NCAA eligibility since he was academically ineligible last year? Is this the same as a developmental redshirt or are their different criteria covering this situation? Seems that I read that the possibility exists that James would have only 3 years. Hope that is not the case! Agree with this. Anything that we get from James Ellis, especially early on, will be a bonus. With Steele and hopefully Rotroff in the mix, we will be much stronger on the boards this year. With a healthy Sincere (fingers crossed) and Maceo emerging as an outstanding player, we should be a much stronger team overall this season. Excellent point duq81 but I still do believe that there are other things that factor into the home court advantage, i.e.. more familiarity with the court, shooting background, hoop tension, just a general feel for the arena. We don't play at PPG enough to have developed that kind of symbiotic relationship with that venue IMO. Just my 2 cents. I do believe that without a true home court, this will be an extremely challenging season. I am not suggesting that the team can't improve on last year's record, but it will require a huge effort given no Palumbo. Wondering what others think. I do not believe in cutting off my nose to spite my face! Marcus was probably the most underrated played on the team based on some past comments. Undersized for the 4 and not a solid shooter needed for the 3 but I'll take him in crunch time anywhere KD puts him! Sincere Carry will be motivated by the D1 offer snub. Between him and Brandon Wade, I think we're looking at four years of the best PG play at Duquesne in years. Agree with this. As I stated in an earlier post, given our big man issues this past season, I truly believe that the most important ingredient on a BB team is a point guard. Without a true PG, the ship has no rudder! So looking forward to having great improvement in both areas. TV being homesick makes more sense than style of play being his reasoning. I believe both TV and TS saw some handwriting on the wall here. Unfortunate when players leave the program but the kids want to play and very often will go where they think they will get the best opportunity to do so. I really don't blame either of them for their decision. Seriously doubt that either player would have played as much next year as this year.. Part of the game. We have plenty of ammo in the gun here. Should be our best season in a very long time coming up! Really looking forward to it! Wish Tarin well. Didn't see this coming but was always a possibility with the grad transfer rule. I am not worried about any negative effect this could have. He would have played the same role next year but most likely with less minutes.. That's ,KD!!! To old to see the keyboard! Really excited about this kid coming here. Looks like a complete player. I think KC and staff are as good as it gets at uncovering hidden talent. Carry might not have been all that hidden but guessing the injuries put off lots of schools. Definitely worth taking a chance on because the rewards look awesome. Eleven kids on next year's team that weren't here this year. Reminds me a little of RE's first year when he had to find lots of players. A friend of mine played at Xavier and was a member of Pete Gillan's first recruiting class. He told me that the following year the first time he played with an incoming recruit named Tyrone Hill he realized that he would be riding the bench for the rest of his career. I wonder if Tydus had the same experience in a pick up game with Gavin? My friend Bob stayed at X and went to multiple NCAA tournaments as Ty Hill helped establish Xavier as a strong program and make his way to the NBA. Phildog, your eyes were not deceiving you. In every statistical category except for blocks, Kellon outperformed TV. In tight games, Dambrot would have Kellon out there on defense instead of TV. At this point of their careers, Kellon had the higher basketball IQ and emotional compete level. In many ways, KT was the MVP of quite a few games this past season. Sometimes a guy that plays his role can be overlooked but without him we would most likely have really struggled to finish at .500. I believe that he will be key moving forward as well. Players with his combination of mental toughness and court awareness are few and far between!! Not really going out on a limb there. I don't take major stock in most of the recruiting services "rankings" and "star" system but of all of them, ESPN is the most reliable in my opinion. They have the biggest actual scouting network and resources to see most or all of these kids play, they review tape, etc. The fact that ESPN lists him as a center would give me reason not to trust them. Anyone who has seen him play knows that he is a stretch 4. I personally like 24/7 the best out of all the recruiting sites. That said, I am really excited to see Gavin play for the Dukes. I think either he or Wade will have the biggest impact from the class. I agree. If you can get 2 kids like that every year who could make a huge impact, this program will literally take off. Not to suggest that the other recruits won't be valuable additions as well. If even one of the others turns out to be a stud, it will be all to the good of the program. Not really going out on a limb there. I don't take major stock in most of the recruiting services "rankings" and "star" system but of all of them, ESPN is the most reliable in my opinion. They have the biggest actual scouting network and resources to see most or all of these kids play, they review tape, etc. Great to hear this! Hopefully the coaching staff has uncovered some diamonds in the rough as far as the other big men that are coming here. The likelihood of all these players remaining here for 4 years might be slim but there is strength in numbers. I have a sneaking suspicion that Gavin may be far and away our most impactful recruit long-term. Really excited to see him in a Duke's uni next year. He brings size and perimeter shooting, a combination that we don't usually see here. Seems to handle the ball well too which is a plus. Probably still needs to develop more big man moves around the hoop. He came to the right place to get what he needs. Ditto all the bigs. Wondering if only players who have requested and been granted transfers are the only ones able to be legally contacted by other schools. That would seem reasonable to me. As long as KD and staff aren't transferring, I'm OK with it all. The names on the backs of the jerseys are not nearly as important as the name on the front!! Don't really expect to see anyone of note leaving the program moving forward. A little late with this but wishing TV all the best! Think he could have developed into a solid all around player here but hoping his future is bright. Didn't quite get his reference as to how he was used here. Had some work to do before he could be utilized in any other way that this past season. Certainly hoping for more than an occasional NCAA appearance every now and then. Remember Loyola-Chicago? Looks very much as though we are locked into a 4400 seat arena costing in excess of 50 million. I'm a fan and booster no matter what, but it is just a bit disappointing. Hoping potential recruits will be impressed when the new Palumbo is unveiled. It will make the difference as to whether or not some of them choose Duquesne or go elsewhere. GO DUKES!! Looks like a really solid hire for Pitt. Great recruiter but needs to prove that he can coach at the ACC level. Suspect that Pitt's basketball fortunes will be on the upswing sooner than I originally suspected. It's OK. Let's have two nationally prominent teams here like Cincinnati and Xavier for example. That would be great for the city.

Ditto for me on this. Don't care about what Nike did or didn't do.
I care only about the success of our BB program.

I recall walk on Kellon Taylor filling in the min. that Verhoven rode the pine in foul trouble , he would put up decent scoring and rebounding numbers with good defensive play also, and a block or two in more than a few games.
That may have become TV 's role as a back up.

They have him as the #18 center in the US for his high school class and a 4* (first I can remember us getting besides maybe Isiaha Watkins?). Tons of kids ranked behind him going to power 5 schools, and big time programs not the bottom feeders in the big conference.
I expect him to be a stud in years to come.Basketball Recruiting » Gavin Bizeau » 4/05/2018 10:57 am
