Disappointing end to a disappointing season. From late December forward, this team always felt like it was close to being a good team but just couldn't get there. Losing Demichele hurt but on the bright side we have him for (hopefully) 3 more years now. Everyone on the team played well from time to time but no one stepped up as the "guy". This game hurt but we were likely losing to VCU next round even if we won. Blowing such a big lead is a tough way to end the season. Really good game by the Dukes tonight. Hronsky and Wilborn both may have played their best games to date of their careers. Wilborn was a beast and just out muscled and outworked the Fordham centers and Hronsky played a fantastic all around game his shooting, rebounding and defense were all good and he saw the floor and passed tremendously tonight. Everyone else played solid and the team played very well after the first five or so minutes. As always Urgo was constantly whining tonight. He is the opposing coach who most annoys me. It just seems like everyone on this team brings something positive but we don't have a true complete player who scores, rebounds, and plays defense on a game in and game out basis. Pretty much everyone has had a few really good games but no one does it consistently. It's frustrating because since January it has felt like we are really close to being a good team but can't put it all together. The Richmond and Fordham games are going to haunt us for tournament seeding. Fantastic game from the Dukes and a good energetic crowd tonight (except the students who either don't show up or only cheer for free fries). The Dukes played much more uptempo, moved the ball, and gave great effort all game long. It was nice to see Necas flash some offense. Overall really good team effort. Hopefully this is the start of getting hot at the right time. There is no great team in the Atlantic 10 and if we play well we can beat anyone and if we don't play well we can lose to the dregs of the league as we have unfortunately shown the last couple weeks. I don't know how this team played so well in early January and is playing so bad now. They appeared to hit their stride but now they have quickly plummeted back to early season lack of form. We have zero ball movement and it is painful watching them on the offensive end. You can get by without interior scoring when you have Jimmy and Dae Dae but not with the current guard play. We really haven't had an interior scoring threat since Mike Hughes and Marcus Weathers. I feel like Dixon and Necas have both showed their scoring ability at times but are way too inconsistent. I've never seen anyone shoot the ball like Corbett. His form reminds me of Charles Barkley's hitch in his golf swing. Almost like he is double pumping from the line and on every open jumper. Fantastic game for the Dukes today! This is what I've been hoping for all year. Everyone played well defensively and more importantly we made shots, even contested ones. The key to basketball is putting the ball through the net and too many times this year we have failed at that. Today was the polar opposite. I still think this team is going to struggle in conference unless they can find some consistent inside scoring but I'm a lot more hopeful about the rest of the season after today. Just really tough to watch this team right now. I'll continue going to the games and supporting the team but I just don't see how they turn this season around. At least in the past you could hope for underclassmen development over the season but nowadays who knows who will or won't be on the team next year. I hate to say it but Dru looks like a very bad hire at this point. I'm not sure what this team does well. They turn the ball over way too much, don't finish inside, miss wide open jump shots, miss way too many free throws, and the defense and rebounding aren't anything special. The worst thing is that I don't see a lack of effort, just bad basketball. They all seem to be trying but there isn't a returning player that has taken a step forward and the all the transfers look like big recruiting misses. This team needs an identity. Just a complete lack of production from the post players. Have any of them been in double figures all year? On top of no offensive production they are getting beat badly on the glass. I expected a big step up from Dixon and Necas and they have both regressed. Dinkins and DeMichele are the only two guys that brought any game tonight. At 0-4 against 4 bad teams it is tough to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Dambrot brought this team out of the dark ages and I really don't want to go back but this team is starting to give me Darelle Porter/Danny Nee vibes. At this point we are looking like the worst team in the A-10. Just picked out my new seats for 2024 and now I'm watching the game on my DVR. I forgot how the Dukes dominated the offensive glass in the first half to build the big lead. Even though I attended the game and already know the outcome, watching the game on TV for the first time is exciting. I can't believe it happened and I can't wait to do it again. Meeting and hanging out with all the other Dukes fans in Brooklyn and Omaha was fantastic. I am a 2006 grad and we were downright awful in my college years. I never thought I would experience the NCAA tournament with the Dukes. I still feel like I'm going to wake up from a dream. Fantastic game today into the round of 32. Heading to PIT for an 8:30 PM flight, will be touching down in Omaha at 11:30 tonight. Where are the Dukes fans going to watch the games tomorrow and where are we meeting up before the game on Saturday? This team can be a top tier A10 team. They have depth and guys who can put the ball in the basket. I might be setting myself up for another major disappointment but I think this could be the best Duquesne team in a very long time. Dukes looking very good again. I get that fordham and St Joe's are the dregs of the conference but they have blown the doors off them both. Keep it up in the second half and carry the momentum into the Dayton game and open the Cooper in style. Dukes looking good and the shots are falling. The young guys are really progressing quickly What a great comeback. The team hasn't quit and the young guys are starting to get more comfortable and contributing. It's amazing how much better this team looks when we make some shots. Is Rotroff injured? Just saw him on the sidelines and noticed he didn't play today. The name of this game is putting the ball in the basket and we simply don't have enough guys who can do that. They are hustling and playing good defense but we need our guards to make shots As of March 11th 2020 everything was looking great for the program. The Dukes had once again exceeded preseason expectations despite having no home court and losing the best player from the 2018-2019 team due to yet another transfer. We had a shot at making the NIT with a deep run in the A10 tourney and who knows maybe we or someone else would knock off the Dayton juggernaut and we could sneak into the big dance. Then March 12th the world changed and the rest of the season was cancelled. Way to grind out a victory today. Michael Hughes stepped up and played like a senior leader. Not sure what is going on with our shooting but we are going to need a couple of guys to step up and start knocking down shots if we are going to compete moving forward without 3 of the 5 starters. This game reminded me of the Danny Nee coached teams during my college years. It was hard to watch. I would say this game and the Marshall game last year were the two worst in the last few years. I don't get it. We brought back every starter from last year's good team and added some nice pieces. No one on the team can shoot. Jameson Battle being in the zone, terrible free throw shooting and a really bad end game turnover by a veteran point guard cost us a game we couldn't afford to lose. Really impressed with the bench today. Okani and Kelly both looked really good. Marcus and Tavian both played well but Sincere and Mike need to play better tomorrow. Really like this team's depth. They have 10 legitimate division one players on this team. Great win. The best game from start to end all season. Marcus was great but nice to see good games from everyone who played today. Another good game for the Dukes. They have to be one of the most balanced scoring teams in the country. Everyone on the court today besides Miller was a threat to score. With that said, when it is crunch time it always seems to be Sincere with th big bucket or crucial assist. 1 2 Jump to

I think our depth can work against us if not managed correctly. We have 10 guys who all can do certain things well and share minutes but we need to ride the hot hands more. Last game Hronsky was hot to start and then didn't play for 15 minutes. We need to play the guys who are playing the best more minutes and use the guys that are off on a given tonight more sparingly. Having a shorter bench tonight allowed the guys to get and stay in their rhythm.
I'm hoping we can find the right combination of minutes, get hot at the right time, and make a run in D.C. in a few weeks.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Dayton Flyers (A) » 2/15/2025 7:15 pm

While on the shooting subject, what the hell happened to Necas' shooting ability? I think he has made one jumper, which happened to be today, in the last month. He gives a ton of effort and is very good defensively and on the glass but you need to be able to occasionally put the ball in the basket to play as many minutes as he does. This team doesn't have a lights out scorer to make up for us playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end when he is in there. He was wide open a few times today and didn't even look at the hoop.
Last item on my rant, what has happened to the ball movement this team was playing with a few weeks ago? Dinkins and Corbett are black holes. Once they get the ball they dribble for 15 seconds and the offense stagnates, Max continues to make bad decisions on the offensive end, and as previously mentioned Necas become an offensive liability.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of California Irvine Anteaters » 12/21/2024 7:42 pm

Still as of 11/29/20 the future of the program was looking better than it had at anytime in the last few decades. We had 7 of our 8 primary contributors coming back and for the first time in a while no one who mattered transferred. Then we lost to Little Rock and I was surprised but not concerned I thought good teams lose early in the year to inferior teams all the time in college basketball nothing to worry about. 3 days later we soundly beat a decent UNCG team and I thought ok now all is well. Next thing you know just about the entire team gets COVID-19 and we don't play for a month. The GW games were cause for concern but I was hoping it was just COVID fatigue and a lack of practice time. Then prior to the Davidson game I hear Lamar is transferring. I think darn there goes not losing any transfers but we have depth and Lamar, while a nice piece, was far from irreplaceable. The Davidson game was maybe the ugliest of the Dambrot era something seemed wrong. Now Carry and Austin are gone and we just played terribly against the worst team in the league. To say I'm concerned would be an understatement.
With that said, I have confidence in Keith Dambrot because he has a two decade track record of success. If you don't want to be here see you later.
The freshman look very promising and I honestly think they have more upside than those who departed because they are long and athletic. Maybe they develop nicely throughout the rest of the season and we get lucky and Mike, Marcus and TavMen's Basketball » Game Thread - Fordham Rams (H) » 1/09/2021 6:03 pm

I'm debating if this makes up for the UMass loss or if it makes me more upset because we could/should be in a better position to make the post season had we won that game.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Davidson Wildcats » 1/05/2020 7:20 pm
