Penguins have a home game tonight at 7:00. I believe the Princeton game is in Trenton, NJ at the Cure Arena. If not I wasted a few dollars. Ticket renewals are out. I purchased mine today. Last year Temple was at the military classic at the Naval Academy and played the second game. Maybe next year we will get to play them. I don't think the schedule has been finalized yet. It needs to start with Frank and Wally’s II. Some things are more important than basketball. Prayers for the family. If he is Dominique Aekins from the Cincinnati area, he was honorable mention All Ohio boys basketball team last year. He is a 5'9" guard. St Louis lost to Vermont by about 10. Dayton up on St. Johns with about 4 minutes left. I failed to disclose that I gleaned this information from a sports commentary, I did not personally check bank accounts, and I failed to allow for the probability that the players transferred because they liked the number of volumes in the university libraries. Final four teams: 19 NIL players and 1 true freshman playing a significant role. Moving forward, is the A10 a one bid league? One further CBI note. No conference has more than one team. Perhaps Duquesne got in early, thus removing the opportunity for other A10 teams. After the A10 tournament Dayton announced they would not participate in further play due to injuries. Apparently St. Louis and Fordham were not invited to the NIT and did not apply to play in the CBI. The semi-final and championship CBI games are on ESPN2. Every year brings some joys and sorrows. The biggest thrill this year was on January 4th when Jimmy Clark went off on his old team, VCU. 26 points, 5 steals and 6 rebounds punctuated by the steal and pass to himself off the backboard for a slam dunk. That's why I attend the games. 500 wins is a momentous achievement. He did it in 25 years, which means an average of 20 wins a year. He knows how to coach, but even more importantly, he has adjusted to the transfer portal and NIL situation better than most. You always have to keep learning or you are left in the dust. Improvise, adapt and overcome. CLK, we need to return to Converse All Stars. Vukovcan has a nice article on PSN about the transfer portal (mainly focusing on football). Scholarships are one year commitments. In basketball, I think 6-7 new players each year is the expected norm. Some will transfer out as their decision and some will be pushed out the door. Only 2-3 HS kids will come in, and those that do will not likely stay long. The old concept of building a program with HS recruits and developing them over four years with some supplementation from transfers has to be revisited. The new norm is how well can one recruit numerous transfers and integrate them into a team concept each year. The bottom line is still wins, but how that is achieved will be done differently from the past. If I win the Mega Millions, I will set aside 5M to bring in players to win a national championship. In essence we traded Leon Ayers for Joe Reece. Reece was dismissed from BG's team in late February. Ayers was nowhere to be found around the same time. Both had been at other schools where they performed well but ran into issues at their last school. Both appear to have talent and potentially could be a help at their new school. Without knowing what went on behind the scenes, it's hard to comment further. Is it fair to blame KD for Primo's selfishness when he was listening to voices outside the program? Primo had his own agenda and so long as he was given the ball he was going to pursue it. I think some players are not coachable especially in this free agent era. Primo has talent and if he could learn to make his team better instead of focusing on his own stats, he could be very very good. He is young and I hope he does it. Leaving Oregon. He entered the transfer portal. He is eligible for a 6th year. The problem I see is that we have inconsistent play from game to game making it difficult to predict who will play well and who will not. Earlier in the year Hima looked lost and I could understand why he was not playing. He stood out against St. Louis and earned more playing time. One can't teach size and if he is getting it, that will bode well. Spears and Johnson need real playing time. They are freshmen and there will be some wonderful moments and some less wonderful. We have to live with that. As to the others I see varying rotations based on how they are doing. I support the coach. Calling him a con artist is inappropriate because it demeans his character, which he does not deserve. Clearly he is trying his best. The loss on Saturday stings, so it is easy to jump on him now. I agree that there are areas that need improvement. Our offense lacked flow especially when compared to the Flyers. We need at least one big if not two. Our young players need to mature. That said, there is a nucleus here that can lead to a good team in the A10 with some additions. I believe most have made up their minds on this issue so the debate is probably not worthwhile. Despite Dambrot's supposed inability to recruit, we beat Dayton last February. Maybe he figured out a way to coach his players.Men's Basketball » Traffic/parking alert » 11/19/2024 11:17 am
