Tejas, I agree that it is disheartening to say the least. I am tired of always waiting for next year. However, this season is just a mess for Duquesne as well as other teams I'm sure. Practices were sporadic at best. Players are out of shape. Young players enter the A-10 schedule with virtually no college basketball experience. In addition, Duquesne has been playing like gypsies for 2 seasons. I can't imagine it's as much fun for these guys to be on the road every game and when they do have a "home" game it's in a high school gym. I think they are playing hard and hopefully they will get better results with conditioning, experience and getting into their home next month. I think having a home and getting settled there is going to make a difference--even with few or no fans. Hopefully, someone will emerge as a legitimate scoring threat. I would like to see Acuff play loose and try to score. He seems tentative and he seems to be playing slow when he has the ball. Even if he makes some mistakes it would be good to see what he can do. He was a prolific scorer in high school so he has to have some ability there. I don't have a clue about who is staying and who might leave. I hope that whatever happens the players and the team land on their respective feet and each benefits when all is said and done. I trust that KD will manage this process as well as he can. Hey Westender, you must watch too much Debbie Downer on SNL. Duquesne is a good and well-coached team...finally. Out Sick I'm no expert but Tyson looks like he's going to be a really good player for Duquesne. He is a complete player. You have to love what KD is doing with this program. The present is fun and the future is bright. It was a great effort by the Dukes and an entertaining college basketball game. The effort would be much more encouraging if Duquesne had not just lost to UMass--a game that it was expected to win. Ironduke, you watched that game again??? Now THAT is toughness!!! Pistol Pete, I agree with your positions. Continue sharing the Gman's thoughts. Sounds like he's someone who knows basketball. I readily admit that my knowledge is superficial but I am a Dukes fan and really want them to do well and win. Oh well...the good news is that the days are getting longer and golf season is on its way. The bottom line is that this team probably isn't as good as we hoped. It is an ok team but there is a lot of talent in this conference, Duquesne hasn't had a "go to" player since Aaron Jackson. There is no leader on the court. The players who could develop into leaders are not mature or disciplined. IronDuke81, I agree that if the Dukes fall flat today we have a major problem. I also agree with the observation that the guard play just hasn't been good lately. As a friend of mine has pointed out to me, in college basketball your team is as good as your guards. Carry looks bigger to me as in more muscular and bulkier--just an observation but I don't know enough to know whether that would affect his play. Obviously it wouldn't affect his decision-making. Carry has to play up to potential for this team to succeed. He has the ability. Was Ellis on the bench last night? I didn't see him and I'm not sure if I just missed him. WVU was hammered on the road by a poor Kansas State team the other day. These things happen. I'm certainly not comparing Duquesne to WVU but sometimes things just get away from a team. The question is whether this team will bounce back on Saturday and win a game on the road that it should win. If so, then next Wednesday will be exciting and this night will be largely forgotten. If Duquesne loses on Saturday, the remainder of the season could be very disappointing given that the record is now 15-3 and expectations have been raised. Pistol Pete, it appears that Coach Huggins had difficulty yesterday controlling the tempo against a very weak Kansas State team. I guess even the best coaches and teams can have an off night. I am confident that KD will make whatever adjustments are necessary to play against a zone. He hasn't won 350 or so games because he's clueless. Of course his strategy will be influenced by the talent and skills of his players. Sometimes a team just plays a poor game--doesn't shoot well, etc. To win a game when you play poorly is big. Even though Fordham is not considered to be a good team, it still has quality Division 1 scholarship basketball players. I give Fordham credit for playing a good game. There are no easy games. Duquesne is getting some attention so other teams will play even harder against them. I am enjoying this season and it will be fun the rest of the way--not easy but fun. I actually had the opportunity to talk to Sincere a few weeks ago and I asked him about his knees. He said that they are 100% and that the procedure that he had last year took care of the problem. I hope he's correct...let's keep our fingers crossed. I was listening to the Fan in Pittsburgh after Pitt blew a 16 point first half lead at home to Wake Forest (picked to finish last in the ACC) and the host had been the broadcaster at Jett Roesing's game the other night. By the way, Capel didn't show-up for his post-game interview and neither did any assistant coach. I would like to see James Ellis at some point. I want to see whether Duquesne has something there. I saw him in high school and thought that he has a ton of potential. I actually talked to Sincere about 6 weeks ago and I asked him about his knees. He told me that the surgery fixed the problem and his knees are 100% and he said that he should have no knee issues whatsoever this season. I hope he is correct. I heard someone at the game say that he is in the dog house. If he is I hope he is out soon, I want to see him play, 21 Wins I hope EW does well but I will be surprised if he is as successful as TJ McConnell. He's just not as good as TJ--not even close. I happened to have 93.7 The Fan on the radio at home and the Pitt pre-game show came on with Filiponi and Julius Page. Filiponi first said that Duquesne was playing for its 20th win and that's a more rare occurrence than Haley's Comet. They then said that Pitt is definitely a better team than Duquesne and would beat them today if they played--no problem. They went on to say that there is no rivalry since Pitt wins every game. They then commented that it's amazing that Duquesne is having its new field house named after UPMC. These players give 100% for their coach every game. It's obvious that they have faith in him and they love playing for him and each other. I don't remember the last time that I felt confident that Duquesne will not be out-coached, out-smarted and out-played in the last minute of a tight game. As for TDM, KD said after the game, do you know what kind of talent you have to have to play at TDM's level in Division I at 5'8"?!! He is remarkable, If you are a Duquesne fan and can't get excited about this team, check your pulse! I think this season has been a success and a huge step forward no matter what happens from this point. The future is bright! You make a good point Phil. More credit should be given to players in that they probably would recognize that baseless speculations by people outside of the program aren't worth considering.and are just musings.

I do know this... I really enjoyed this season. As for next season the future is bright and I am excited that Tyson Acuff will be on the team. I don't know much but he looks like one heck of a player--the real deal.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - VCU Rams » 3/03/2020 9:52 pm

The lack of depth is a real problem as well as the 2-guard position. The injury to Frankie Hughes was more of a blow that I initially thought.
Understandably, Maceo doesn't seem to be himself. I can't imagine what his life has been like the last couple of weeks and as far as I am concerned, he gets a pass for the rest of the season. The entire team has to be affected because Maceo is affected. Maceo is an excellent player and a winner. Whenever, he settles back in, I think we will see improved play by the whole team.
I was glad to see that James Ellis was on the bench.
I am hoping that the team hit a mid-season slump and will get on a winning steak and surprise us with a couple of wins that we are not expecting but... time will tell. Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of Massachusetts Minutemen » 1/26/2020 2:03 pm

Econ, I really hope you are correct.
Ritters, as much as I hope you are not correct, I don't discount your opinion. You may well be right.

It's too bad that Ellis isn't developing or whatever the issue is with him. He has talent and size and if he was a reliable player he could make a huge difference--he didn't even make the trip.
Wednesday night could get really ugly. Dayton is a real team with real talent.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of Massachusetts Minutemen » 1/25/2020 11:26 am
Hopefully the team bounces back strong today. I hope the players show some maturity and discipline. A convincing win could provide some momentum going into the Wednesday night game.

As for Huggins and his strategy--Huggins is a great basketball coach--no doubt. He also has a ton of talent this year including Maceo's teammate from Kennedy Catholic who might be a one and done player. Keep in mind that last season, when Huggins didn't have as much talent, his game "strategy" didn't always work out so well.
Thoughts and prayers to Maceo and his family. Just awful...

He said that Duquesne fans are going to love this kid. He said that Jett is one of the two or three best shooters in the country and he said that is not a stretch. He said he is Steph Curry-like. He said that he warms up 6-8 feet behind the NBA three-point line and doesn't miss. He was very impressed. I hope he's a good judge of talent! I'm disappointed that Ellis didn't play against WVU. As someone said, if he doesn't play this year he will probably not stay. KD went to extraordinary measures to have him enrolled at DU as I understand it. Why go to the trouble if Ellis isn't in the plan? I saw him in high school and thought he has game-changer potential. Of course, I'm no expert...Men's Basketball » Eric Williams Recruitment » 4/21/2019 6:49 pm
