Zach, thank you for posting in this thread as I would like to ask a few questions about the team as the season is winding down. FWIW my statement on road was based on sources inside and outside the program, then things changed. This will be their last hosting game until likely the final four because WBB hosts the D-2 Championship. Had there been a home game, and there is, it had to be the 20th. That was known. To get Meg at least one last home game is huge and the team will pull out the stops to get as many teams on campus as possible. I just wanted to take a second and post my article on Duquesne Swimming & Diving. Tomorrow starts their A-10 championship and coach Dave Sheets and seniors Orla Egan and Haley Scholer were all gracious and incredibly open with their time. Ask him about the refs in the next press conference. I know he's pissed about them. He was asked postgame by Ray Goss on the radio, he downplayed it and said we will eventually get those calls. If they say too much on the officials they get fined by the A-10. If I recall, I don't think that was Dixon who asked not to start, but I could be wrong. It was Dixon who went to DJ3 and said put me on the bench. In this case you need discipline and consistency, though the fouls piled up down the stretch, starting him today, especially given Necas being out was absolutely the correct call. Just wanted to mention that David Finoli, Robert Healy III and myself all wrote a book about last year's team, which is now available on Amazon. This book is a great gift or personal item to remember last year and what it meant. Lots of new interviews and content here. Here is the link for those interested. I feel like my piece on Megan and Kellie McConnell was missed on here and wanted to share it for everyone to enjoy. Duquesne WBB's McConnell Cousins Grow Closer On And Off Court - Pittsburgh Sports Now Thank you for your kind words. It has been a privilege to cover so many Duquesne teams and events for you all. I am glad you appreciate my work and hope for plenty more Duquesne content, for knock on wood a long time! Here is the link to my article. Snezhe was very open about what happened between cancer and hip injuries even having very recently been cleared with the former. Duquesne's Serafimoska Fulfills Promise, Beats Cancer - Pittsburgh Sports Now Hey Levon, Zac here from PSN. I've been providing content all season long from each Duq WBB game. I have talked to at least Dan Burt after every game so be sure to keep reading to stay in the loop. This season has thrown the team a lot of curveballs but a lot of young talent are finding their roles and everyone on the team remains optimistic. Zach, I've been following everything that you post or is re-posted on Facebook or Twitter, and absolutely realize that you have been on the beat, since the beginning of this unusual season. I appreciate your work and your diligence in reporting on the Dukes. My comments were strictly directed to this Board, which is normally very lively during the season with comments about the women's team. Perhaps there is a lack of interest considering the problems with the team and lack of live game action. I get that I just took it as no coverage which I have tried to provide for nearly 10 years. It is a shame that the ladies do not get more posts on here, they have some definite encouragement from the freshmen. It could be the record, the lack of being at games hurting them, really it could be a lot of things. Zac, what is the status of Aniya Walker? Is she even on the team? She is listed on the roster, but hasn't played yet. The team openly stated that Aniya suffered an off-season injury and will not play this season. It is an injury which Burt referenced in the team's chalk talk as one where she will not be back until late this year (either Oct or Nov, I do not remember off the top of my head). Honestly I am not as aware about the recruiting plans and commitments beyond Westphal's commit at this point in time. Perhaps they could be waiting for COVID but that would be pure speculation. Hey Levon, Zac here from PSN. I've been providing content all season long from each Duq WBB game. I have talked to at least Dan Burt after every game so be sure to keep reading to stay in the loop. This season has thrown the team a lot of curveballs but a lot of young talent are finding their roles and everyone on the team remains optimistic. I am a huge fan of Dambrot as his personality is infectious and really interviews better than most coaches in all of sports in my opinion. Made some great points in this interview. "We wouldn't have won that game without Rotroff." Said the ref told him how would you feel if I called a T on you in a game clinching situation like that and he couldn't argue it because he agreed. Also mentioned his son transferring schools while playing D1 soccer, and he did not have to sit out because that was only a rule in football and basketball. He really looks at things at fairly as he can. In the middle he went after some reporter pretty hard after the guy only asked questions about Bonaventure's hostile environment. Poor man got roasted lol That's because it was Mike Hughes.
My Inside the Dukes for those interested. Yes forgot the link since I was on a break at work. I was at WBB practice and did this piece with Dan Burt which I decided to write in Q&A format. I figured I would start a City Game thread with my piece here. Content on the injuries, adjustments and even a thought on how Duquesne will play against Pitt. I also have this article written at LaGuardia.
Well the good news is that Mike Hughes is able to practice, but KD admitted that he is behind in conditioning. It was good to see Amari Kelly doing some work on the side, Austin Rotroff fully watching practice and James Ellis got some run and seems in good spirits. I wanted to post my first feature of the season which is on Baylee Steele. I was at open media availability today and have this one-on-one with Keith Dambrot. 1. What is Gabby Grantham-Medley's status for next year? I don't recall reading if she suffered an injury, but given she missed the entire season, I am assuming she may have had an ACL (or something like it) injury that typically takes a full year to recover from. If that is the case, do you know what her recovery progress is? Will she be fully healthy for next year? I think she is crucial to our success next year given the loss of Meg McConnell to graduation.
2. Do you know anything about next year's roster? For example, will Kaitlyn Ammons return? Not sure what years of eligibility she has left and unfortunately, she was off/on with injuries this season. Also, do you know if there are any new players that have committed to Duquesne? I've looked on Raoul's twitter page and there is no update, other than Alexis Bordas. Raoul's twitter ( ) has so much useful information about women's recruiting.
I've looked for any mention of Duquesne when it comes to other players who have committed to other schools to see if we were in consideration and I was very disappointed to not find us invoved with other recruits. And for reference, I looked at the players who committed to A10 schools and any PA/Ohio players that had similar offers from A10 schools and didn't see us mentioned at all. Either Dan didn't recruit anyone other than Bordas or we missed badly. Of concern is that Natalie Wetzel, a 6-3 post player is going to ACC Miami. I have never seen Duquesne mentioned with her recruitment which is extremely frustrating because she plays a position of need. Apparently, Burt made reference to a 6-6 player from Senegal, as well as other players of similar height during a FAN radion interview. Any chance you have some insight?

Also, what is the plan for recruiting? Duquesne had 3 other players committed (all international) in addition to Olivia Westphal, but only Westphal signed.
Are these three players still an option for next year or are we now looking at 22-23?Women's basketball » News Blackout on the Women? » 1/18/2021 5:12 pm
