Windhorst actually lives in Omaha.  It was a short trip for him.

Key Takeaway: Bronny is being told by NBA scouts that USC wasn't a good situation for him and that he needs to go somewhere [at the college level] where he can play point guard, not on the wing where USC played him his freshman year (important because the feedback from scouts will factor into his decision to remain in the draft or return to college)

Other Stuff

- McAfee frames the entire discussion around Bronny going to Duquesne (cool to continue to see Duquense talked about nationally)

- Windhorst was in full support of Bronny to Duquesne and Windhorst actually went to Omaha for round 1 to support Dru Joyce and the Dukes (not actual news and doesn't matter ultimately but still cool to see Duquesne spoken about so posivtively on a national show)

- Windhorst ultimately thinks Bronny will want to play somewhere closer to home...but this was just his opinion on the matter, not something he was reporting as a factor in his eventual decision

- Segment ends with McAfee and Windhorst jokingly pitching Duqueusne to Bronny...again, just cool to hear that coming from a national show

Listen to the Hoop Collective podcast that I linked above.  It is insightful into the relationship of Dru, KD and LeBron.  One thing that is not mentioned is that KD met Dru and LeBron at the Jewish Center in Akron where he coached them before HS.

Per Windhorst from ESPN and a graduate of St Vincent-St Mary, Dru was actually 5 foot even.

One thing to keep in mind, KD coached LeBron in his formative years.  Dru and LeBron were best friends.  LeBron went to a far lesser basketball HS just to play with Dru.  I am not sure of the benefits Duquesne recieved from the relationship with LeBron, but his relationship with Dru will bring 10x that.

Dayton beat a Duq team ....young, inexperianced with all new starters...by 20 and a veteran, battle tested, well coached team by 18.  Dayton seems to be a pretty good team.

I lived in the Dayton area for a few years.  They love the Flyers and really support the team. It always amazed me how they got so much support from so many not affiliated with the school in any way.

One correction. In all the years KD was at Akron, only 1 kid left the program for another (Bubba Walter). Many walk-ons left to go to D2&3 programs but I doubt that is a negative. The league MVP and another 1st team all MAC player (both are playing professionally) could have left the program as grad students but stayed because of loyalty to KD. He typically had 3-4 seniors every year. But....times have changed and so is KD.

True, but where were they going to go? It's not like bigger schools were after them. The transfer portal has obviously created a way for players to get out of uncomfortable situations which I can't blame them. Dambrot did pretty well at Akron, but we are talking a mid range mid major conference. Ohio U and Kent stand out from their NCAA performances, as well as Eastern Michigan back in the day, Miami Ohio with Wally, Toledo a bit, but not Akron really. They never did much after conference play did they? I know they won an NIT game or two.

Bigger schools were after them.  The 2 guards who left when KD left went to UNLV and New Mexico.

Lots of analysis and assumptions here without many facts. Disappointing that people do not do a little research.

I see many college sports disappearing. Be careful what you wish for.  Lots of underprivileged kids will lose out on a free education. Those who can afford it will still get it.

Will a kid stay at Kent football after a good year??  Go make money at Kansas with free player movement.  Get paid?? Kent folds.  85 scholarships gone.

Some people make the goofiest comments ever on this board about this coach. Wildwood, why don't you go back and enjoy reminiscing about the good old days when Duquesne was playing some great basketball with powerhouse rosters under guys like Scott Edgar, Darrelle Porter and Danny Nee, That was some fun years, man. Let's not forget that defensive whiz, Jim Ferry. I didn't care if they made the A10 tournament. I was just happy when they reached double figures in wins.

And ad hominem and straw man attacks don't improve the level of discourse here.  No one denies the good things Dambrot (also Harper and Gormley) have done and the strides this program has made, so spare us that.  Some people are asking some good questions and seeking answers.  I made the point about going back to square one because of team chemistry, and once again we have a group of strangers who haven't played together and hoping they gell fast.  Year five and a lot of the players this coach has recruited have left, and there should be questions about that. Saying we want to call UBMC and buy out Jim Ferry? Puh-leez!

Here is the problem....

People make comments here and are offended by pushback.  Why??  Wild man writes a War and Peace type post making many claims and does not want ANY push back.  People make statements like they don't like the coach and he is a putz...and never come back to those statements.  Marcus needs work just to be a good A10 backup...Ellis and Kelly are stars...MB sucks...and on and on and never write or say "oops....got that wrong", or "he really improved beyond my expectations".  You can criticize Hughes, TDM and MB but guys who leave are off limits. Graduating from DU or staying does not get you more respect than taking your ball and going home??  You state that they are back at square one. Most would disagree.  If they prove better than KD's first team will you be back and say you were wrong??  We shall see.  Seeki

Find it a bit odd that RG Gunn is listed as a center on the website. KD had referred to him as a 4 I believe. Didn't he play guard for his college team? Wonder where he will play. Thinking multiple positions? Would be surprised to see him at guard for the Dukes.

The most successful PF at Akron was a SG in HS and thought of himself as one the first few years in college.  Marcus Weathers was a SG in HS.  KD likes PFs who are athletic and can stretch the floor.....also intelligent and can move the ball.  Gunn seems to fit that mold.

Better to get it fixed now than in 2-3 years.    KD is gonna have his hands full keeping these guys happy.   Lots of players who can play on this roster, and only 40 minutes/game.

Thirteen players, 40 minutes, and 1 basketball. It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out. Obviously there will be some players who will be unhappy with their playing time. That's expected and who can blame a kid who has been a great player in HS and isn't getting much opportunity at the next level. It's all part of the process. Those who spend most of their time on the bench will look to go elsewhere where they think there may be more PT for them. I guess the trick is keeping enough players happy enough. Not easy these days as stated. You would almost think with the apparent depth on this team we might see a 10 or 11 man rotation. I almost can't imagine too many of these players not getting playing time. There will most likely be injuries, hopefully nothing serious, and a player or two who may not fulfill expectations as well. Guess you can never have enough good players.

As long as I have followed KD he has had a deep rotation. 10 to 11....not all getting big minutes.

Agree.  He has a huge upside.  Still young and looked good at times last year.  He's the type of player who could develop into a star.  He's a good example of what I've said before.  KD needs to learn how to work with these types of players.

If he was a cancer in the locker room - I get it.  Good riddance.  But I didn't get that.  He was behind Marcus Weathers on the depth chart and did a nice when Marcus needed a rest.  Things seemed to be progressing normally.  I was (am) really looking forward to seeing him move up to starter and become an inside presence for this team.

You better duck, cause attacks are incoming.   You cant say anything about Dambrot here except 100% praise.

Why is it well thought out criticism but rebuttals and different perspectives attacks??

Just wondering....

I am not bomb throwing here, and want some serious replies, but I want someone to explain to me how next year is anything but a few steps back in the progress of this team, if not back at square one!

Most of us knew going in, this was going to be a wash of a year, but we expected progress and were looking forward to a senior-loaded team next year with the likes of Carry, Norman, Weathers and Hughes, and now all of them are gone, along with one of our top freshman, so four years into Keith Dambrot's tenure and here we are with a bunch of freshman, sophomores, and lottery ticket transfers. Oh well, at least we will now be an 8-10 win also ran in the A-10 never getting into the Big Dance, instead of our historical average 3-7 win team never getting there. I am one disgusted fan.

Square one??  You are frustrated I guess...because I doubt any rational person would argue that this team is not better than KD's first team. Things change and not always for the better.  You can adapt or let the new way of doing business drive you crazy.

I believe TDM's goals are to coach...not to play overseas.  I also believe this was a decision that KD and TDM came jointly to best benefit TDM in the long run.  I can see TDM joining KD's staff somewhere down the road.

Good luck TDM.  Just remember not to read the forums once you start coaching. ;)

It’s not the fact that Jett and some other players were not able to play at this level. I find the major problem is the coaching staffs ability to judge high school talent. There have been too many swings and misses. Players they bring in can not even contribute at lower level schools when they transfer out. As of today this staff has brought in 22 high school recruits. Only seven remain. Of which five are from last year’s incoming class. So that number is still in question. Of the 15 players to leave, only Williams moved up and contributed to his team. The remaining 14 players are struggling. So, it’s really not the fact that these players are transferring, it’s the judgement that the coaching staff has had trouble identifying what it takes to play in the A10 that concerns me.

Sin and the transfers this year are struggling??  Please send me the link.

I don’t understand the angst from some posters regarding the loss of a player who couldn’t get on the court. There is a reason for this - they were not good enough to play meaningful minutes. For whatever reason. The coaching staff and teammates watch these players for hundreds of practice hours; if they were good enough to contribute and make the team better, they would have played. Two years ago it was James Ellis; now it is Jett Roesing. I wish I could scrub from my mind watching Jett play his 5 minutes against Fordham; it was painful to watch. He certainly didn’t look like the player on the First Love highlight videos. You can never predict how a young man will respond when they have to step up to another level; confidence is a fragile thing for any athlete.

He played??  Hmmmmmm.....

For comparison....how did the Bonnies fair with COVID??.

Here is what I found:

1. After start of games on 12/15 the Bonnies had no additional covid issues.  They had 5 games cancelled but none were due to the Bonnies covid issues ... allowing them to continue practice.   From what I could find, they only had 2 players with issues prior to the 12/15 start.

2.  Duq had 2 covid issues after the start of the season.  Although we do not know who had the virus...we do know the at only 6 were able to practice after the second covid shutdown.  So....almost all of the Duq players had the virus and were shut down during the season.  Covid is not like the cold or the flu, we do not know the how it affects each person.  Myles Garret of the Browns took months to fully recover. Not being able to practice and practicing with the affects of covid had to have a negative affect.

3. The Bonnies were a veteran team having only 2 freshman and one sophomore.   The Duqs are very young with 6 freshman and 4 sophomores.  The freshman did not train in summer and had 2 covid interruptions.  That had to affect freshman, who have yet to experience or understand D1 basketball, compa

I guess the chance to play with your brother again & go dancing means a great deal to them.
