I do not know how they picked Sacred Heart understand the win percentage theory but teams that were 2-2 played an extra game over the Pioneers. I guess the NEC picked them based off them being the closest opponent we played. Hope the Dukes smoke them to show up the conference committee.

So does this mean they clinched a spot in the championship game? Obviously like to see them beat Bryant but only team in the conference with 3 wins plus head to head over Sacred Heart.

I want to be respectful, but I have to be honest. Dambrot has brought this team from a bottom feeder to a middle of the pack team in four years.  No question this year is a mulligan year, however, when you look at the talent brought in by other teams it is hard to see the Dukes moving up with what we have even if Hughes and Weathers return.  My honest opinion is that Dambrot has just not recruited good enough players. In four years he has brought only two players (Weathers and Hughes) who had stayed with the team capable of competing with the best players in the league at their position (I call them difference makers). His recruiting record over the last four years has been below average.  Again just trying to keep it honest.  This year he has brought in four decent freshmen, and clearly Baker has exhibited the most upside. The the others may develop into good to very good team players, but at this point I don't see any of them (except for Baker) being real difference makers to get us to the top of the league.

Bottom line is that the next recruiting class needs to be exceptional, not average, if we are going to compete for a league championship,  My hope is that Weathers and Hughes return, and that Dambrot hits the transfer market hard to rebuild with quality players (especially PG, SG and PF/C) and give the for freshman time to hopefully mature into difference makers.

That makes sense but I have also attributed departures and average players to poor facilities. How hard was it to recruit players when we were at the Palimbo center. Which my friend who ran track said the weight room was pitiful. I think now that you have a winning coach, new gym, and great weight room it’ll be hard to look past playing on the Bluff. Next we just need to get a home court advantage by having a packed house. Those are factors which draw in players and I think it will really improve our recruiting this year.

Ugly but inevitable loss. As for returning the seniors.  Why?  If you had a top 3 team in the league then try and bring back a few of the guys that makes you special. Dukes are not a top team and no one is an all-league player.  Time to look forward to a full home season in a new arena with a fresh group of faces.

You could say that but look at 2 years ago. This team had 22 wins which was the most in a while for the program and all three of these players were huge reasons for that. Also, the departures and pauses did not help in terms of getting in a rhythm and figuring out a good rotation. Give these young guys a good off season and more ability to learn and build muscle and they will be even better. That does not mean they cannot add a few pieces maybe a transfer or grad transfer at guard and a more experienced big man like Baylee Steele. Don’t think they’re too far behind any of these teams in the A10

I think TDM, Hughes, and Weathers would be great to have back. Not really the big guys fault that we cannot shoot from the outside. Chad baker puts more muscle on and he’s going to be hard to defend. Acuff looks better every game he plays along with Harris and Okani. I am not too sure about Maceo and Rotroff they might need to explore different options neither good enough to play D1 hoops. Most importantly we need a deadly shooter whether that be a grad transfer or true freshman. Also, wouldn’t mind adding a real tall big for rebounds and put backs.

Home cooking bonnies bench player should’ve been tossed but typical A10 officiating should’ve been a Double T but give these guys credit for still playing hard. Hope the 3 seniors are back next year need a good shooter

As happens every time we play the Bonnies someone on their message board mentions in one way or another that they get homered when playing the Dukes. It was the opposite when they were on the road. Anybody here think we get a fair shake from the stripes.

Well I remember playing there last year and one of their idiot fans threw a balloon on the court during critical foul shots to send it to ot. Believe it was Sincere Carry shooting them. It should’ve been a technical foul but nothing was called and in the end we ended up winning but talk about homer calls.

Wow what a game but that was a hard fought win and even better was seeing a guy in Golden who has torched us beyond himself on the bench. How many flops were taken by Richmond must be taught to fall down every three they take those were some bad calls and poetic justice that he missed all three at the end. But great coaching job KD let’s keep feeding our bigs they’re great when they get confidence. Thought we were done when we were down 14 but great work. Next up bonnies

I like this team it’s hard to fully evaluate them since they only played 16 games with two pauses but I’ll take Hughes and weathers over any bigs in the A10. With that being said as a team we need to play to our strength. That means let our bigs go to work and give them a lot of touches when both Mike and Marcus gain confidence on offense they’re even better on defense taking charges and protecting the rim. This could be seen in the Dayton game. Also young kids need to play with composure I really enjoy Chad Bakers energy but he cannot get a T and cannot throw up contested 3s. Work the ball around since a lot of movement inside helps open up some outside shots. Finally make the Spiders shoot contested shots get a hand their face and never put your hands down when guarding the perimeter. They beat us last time by knocking down some late 3s don’t let that happen again.

There is a lot of negativity floating around about KD which is absolutely appalling to see. First off I think all the seniors will be back next year since they can improve their stock in becoming pros overseas. That means another year for the freshman to learn, evolve, and get much stronger. The last game was horrible I will say that and was frustrating to watch but it is so hard to play a few games then get shutdown for a month and then finally start playing good only to be shutdown again. Every team has to deal with this I know but it never becomes normal for young kids. Especially it can be tough for shooters since you’re not getting in a rhythm in terms of playing regularly. In terms of TDM the guy can shoot the ball but it’s hard playing point and being a shooter. When they had Frankie Hughes, Eric Williams, and TDM it was a pick your poison cause all of them could shoot the ball while having a guy at point in Sincere Carry who played point for the majority of the game and conserved their energy. In terms of bringing in Micah that’s a waste of a hire no player being brought in is going to completely change their shooting form especially at this level. Also they have Ashton Gibbs on the staff who like him or not was a great shooter at Pitt. I understand the concern after a tough game but the program is moving up not down with KD and now the new arena. If he pulls out a winning record this year that would be 3 years in a row with a winning record when was the last time anybody saw that. As fans we need to trust the process KD is winning and has been able to recruit some players no one has wanted and make them good. That comes with a few misses every now and again like Brandon wade and rotroff but with the new facility we are more likely to bring even better players in. Trust the process!

I was thinking how smart of a player he was last night. He just does not make that stupid or lack luster mistake. Plays solid defense in my book. Even though crutcher had 24 he was uncomfortable at the beginning of the game and a large part of that was due to his effort. He moves his feet on defense and gets through screens which is pertinent to our defensive effort. Since it leads to less mismatches with bigs guarding faster players or a guard getting caught on a big. Moves the ball on offense and is very unselfish. In fact last night there were about 3 minutes left when they broke UD’s press and they passed to Bekelja who was wide open in the corner for 3 with about 23 seconds still on the shot clock. MB passed out to the point and ran a set knowing the time in the game that was a great decision. Dayton was starting to get going and needed as much time as possible. I like him a lot and would start him next game too!

El P - I read that too.  I think the one comment posted on the Dayton board was that if Duquesne was any good, we would have beat them by 50.  Well, you only need  to win one by one!

Go Dukes!

It's ironic that Dayton won the first game by more than we won this one. Late fouls and the "spurtability" of basketball can do that, which is why actually watching the game is even more important in basketball than in football. We were winning the first game at the half and down only 4 with 13 minutes left. In this one we were up 17 with 5 minutes left in the first half and up 22 with 9 minutes to go. Ask anyone based on those numbers which game was closer and they'd say the first one; but of course Dayton won that one by nine and we only won this one by five.

Nothing changes my opinion on Dayton fans. Most obnoxious fan base out there. Yeah they travel well and support their team big time but they have such arrogance when listening to them. Like they couldn’t lose to a team like Duquesne. I enjoyed nothing more than not only beating them but just thinking about their fans crying about losing to the Dukes. Flyers fans you want some  cheese with that whine

I thought Mikey Bekelja played very well at pg. Especially on defense, I know Crutcher had 24 but he made him work and also made some smart plays on offense. Thought he moved his feet well and worked through some big screens. Like him and acuff they take some pressure off TDM. I will say I thought Murphy would be a good addition but don’t think he plays nearly as good as Acuff and Bekelja. Not a great driver and stands straight up when he kills the dribble.

I know there is a lot of negativity but this team is only playing there seventh game and with the departures it does not make it easy on coach to find a good cohesive starting lineup. I do think the young guards need to be told to get back to our identity from last year and that is feed Marcus and Mike the rock down low. During our wins last year they played a huge factor on the inside even at the start of the Dayton game they looked good feeding Marcus down low. Those two are our leaders but getting them going also opens up shots from outside when the defenders converge down low. I think right now our young players are just going too fast and trying to hit shots that you can get at any moment in the shot clock. Once we get back to feeding the bigs (especially Mike and Marcus) is when we will truly come together as a team in terms of a good offense. We have to attack osunniyi this game and not settle for those long contested jumpers. Get him in foul trouble and continue to feed it down low.

I will be disappointed if the marketing folks & school administration didn't make sure that merchandise is immediately available with the new mascot. They did a less than stellar job with that when the "D" was  launched.

I contacted the bookstore and they said not to expect anything for 2-3 months with the new logo. This is a serious disappointment and poorly done by Duquesne athletics. If you are going to rollout a new logo you should have it available after the release like other big schools do. A lot of impulse buys are made when you see something new and exciting. I always feel our bookstore doesn’t offer much in terms of variety and products unfortunately not to bash them but I’ve just been disappointed with their efforts to offer more new logo Nike and lack of not providing old logo products.

This guy is a good player the reason Pitt beat FSU, BC, and the tournament they were in  last year. His numbers are skewed because at the end of the season he got a bad concussion and was never the same. Actually watching some of Pitt games he was a fan favorite and an extremely hard worker. Note that he’s a catch and shoot guy and can not create too much off the dribble. Excited to see him play thought he would look good in a Duquesne jersey

I agree with Paul Zeise when he said if they’re not gonna play Duquesne in basketball why play them in anything. Meaning those Olympic sports which are an easy trip for both push them out and make them find someone else. That’s just how the business should be done. Even though I also like Pitt I think this is ridiculous they should be continually scrutinized for this
