Are you serious, scduke? You don't think a medical school is more important that basketball? Good lord, man, it's almost surprising you graduated.

Phil95 quotes a report saying he is a "must watch" for "low major of Division II programs."
Really? And Duquesne signed him. Is this the kind of player we want at the point? A Division II "must watch"?

As I've said before: Let's forget all about this LeBron stuff. Yes, Dambrot coached him once, but what does that mean for Duquesne.

In the first 31 years of Duquesne basketball, from the 1913-14 through the 1947-48 seasons, the Dukes had 26 winning seasons. From the 1948-49 year, when the Associated Press poll began, to 1971-72, the last time the team was ranked, it had 21 winning seasons in 24 years.
The total: 47 winning seasons in 55 years.
In the 50 seasons since, the Dukes have topped .500 only 12 times. To be sure, there have been some good seasons: 21-win years in 2009-10 and 2019-20; 20 in 1980-81; 19 in 2010-11 and 2018-19 and 18 in 1979-80.
But there also have been 12 single-digit-win years.
The once-proud Duquesne basketball tradition has not really been seen alive since 1972 and the performance has been, overall, rather mediocre.
My question is: Have we been fooling ourselves?

I have been impressed with how Coach Dambrot stirs excitement for the team every season and the by February has brought us back to reality.

I am quite tired of the whole LeBron thing. Is it anything more than Dambrot trying to grease his reputation by recalling he coached a star in high school? What has LeBron done for Duquesne? Has he ever appeared here? Has he done anything more than allowing Duquesne to use his logo. Let's move on.

Exactly right, Ironduke81. Although I am disappointed and perplexed at the lack of success of the basketball team, I am thrilled at the direction of the university overall, and of the direction of the athletics program overall. Duquesne continues to grow academically and with its ability to offer athletic experience to many students. The whining is sad.

Why has no one asked the meaning, significance of the term associate? Some have suggested he could be Dambrot's. Are there any reporters out there?

Concerning Duquesne basketball, Decline and Fall is even more appropriate.
In the 25 years between 1948-49, when the AP rankings were initiated, and 1971-72, the last time the Dukes were ranked, the team overall played .686 ball. A few bad years, many fine ones, but .686 overall.
Between 1982-83, when Jim Satalin was hired to replace Mike Rice, and 2005-06, the end of the Danny Nee debacle, the Dukes played .320 ball. Those years of course included Scott Edgar, Darelle Porter and John Carroll, who did have one .567 year.
From 2006-07 and the hiring of Ron Everhart through last season, the team has played .483 ball.
It is no puzzle why there are few Duquesne fans and why the small group that exists is old.
In the past 50 years, the team has had fewer than 10 losses in a season three times, One of those was the COVID year, when it had nine. (And nine wins, too.)

Simms, really: Kentucky and Duquesne similar? Synonymous with success? The Dukes are 272-360 in the past 20 years. They haven't been to the tournament in 45 years. Come on.

I am not going to get even interested until Dambrot signs someone 6-10, above 230 and with a little experience. A Munchkin squad with go nowhere.

I agree with Royal Duke about Barre. He seems to be a big guy who doesn't get much done. The Dukes don't need that.

The Dukes need players at least a foot taller. Yes, a good PG is necessary, but they are going nowhere at this size.

Another 5-9 guard. Ho hum. Prediction: He won't be Calvin Murphy. Question: Why were Toledo and Mississippi Valley State the only schools other than Duquesne after him? Another question: Why was Duquesne.
I'm really getting tired of this short-ball stuff.
