1 2 Jump to In case anyone needs a laugh before the game. Every time we play Dayton I can't get this out of my head: I have two tickets available for the Tuesday game vs St. Bonaventure - feel free to send me a message if you would like to claim them! FYI - These have been claimed I can’t make the game Friday so would like to give my season tickets away for Friday’s game vs Rider to someone on this board. Two tickets, Section 105 behind the basket, will transfer them to you for free. He committed to Grand Canyon What are the blue heart patches on our jerseys for? I’m sure I must have missed it somewhere on this board, so apologies for the uninformed question I can certainly see the upside in cleaning house and getting rid of those who bring a negative energy and/or are cancers in the locker room. It wouldn't be hard to speculate that Chad was one of those guys based on his on-court melt downs. And because of that maybe this shouldn't be that surprising, but I was still taken by surprise. Link to PSN article - I agree with ‘81 and it’s not even close with those two teams. Even the teams with Tommy Pipkins, Kevin Price, Nick Bosnic and Mike James et al had guys that were proven scorers. There’s no Pipkins on this team! Not being argumentative or disagreeable, but I have a few different thoughts from you and duq81 on the topic. The guys we have may turn out great, but we knew how loaded that 79-80 team was from the door, The collapse after startin Shameless plug, this a project I worked on. But I think they turned out great and thought I’d share here due to the inclusion of Chuck Cooper. Your PG can’t throw up 10 3’s and have more turnovers than assists. Sin needs to have a better understanding of his role. I get where this is coming from, he was not as sharp as we would like. But this has to be taken into account when you're playing a top 10 team, everything is more difficult. Turnovers will be higher, assists, and FG% will be down. Sin was one of the few guys on the team that could create off the dribble against Dayton. We got no production from the 2 spot, so the load was on the PG to make things happen, and that leads to forcing things. The team looks deflated and frustrated. That makes all the difference between competing for the top and being middle of the pack. We have talent to be middle of the pack minimum, but if the team doesn’t believe in themselves it doesn’t matter. Two things I’ve been thinking about, is Maceo’s family tragedy having an bigger impact? Dambrot has hinted that he is a ‘glue’ guy in the locker room. Also, no Ellis on the bench during the road trip? We have all noticed how animated and supportive he is during games, the bench looks dead without him, another ‘glue’ factor in the locker room. These are kids, I think the mental aspect is important. Dambrot has some work to do to try to get their confidence back. Received 9 votes in the latest poll, starting to open some eyes. I know this doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but any attention like this is good for the program! 9-3 OOC This is classless. This is what I mean when I said we can be angry, upset, disappointed over the situation but should hold ourselves to something higher than personal attacks. This board has gotten ugly and that is really disappointing to me Not suggesting it’s anyone from this board but I just feel like I gotta say the criticism directed at Eric on Twitter is pretty classless. This feels like a big blow, as I saw him as being 'the guy' for us these next two seasons. Anyone else concerned about this or am I overreacting? Honored to have secured this prestigious honor! EWs games where he didn't care hurt him. This is way off base. I have watch EW play every game the entire season. He has had some bad shooting nights along the way (so do all players), but I have never seen him play "where he didn't care". He is perhaps the most passionate player we have, and gives it all every game. When I watch EWJr. play, I see a guy who plays the NBA style. In my mind, there's a reason he comes off differently than other college players. He's so smooth and glides so well that, at times, he doesn't appear to be hustling. But that kid can really play. He does so many intangible things well. He's on his way to becoming a pro. That's why, when he's struggling with his shot, he turns his full attention to something else that needs to be done. He's the best player on Duquesne's team, in my opinion. Look out for the next two years! This guy is going to be a real star. I completely agree, he makes it look easy, sometimes people perceive this as not caring. But even on his off nights he is always flying in for every. single. rebound. I remember at the beginning of the season he gave an interview where he said that he views his primary role on the team as a 'rebounding' which, to me, speaks a lot about the determination you need to have if that is the stat you are judging yourself against. Also, I think he doesn't get foul calls the way some other players do, not sure why, maybe the refs get the same negative perception about him. I've been impressed that he doesn't lose his head and throw a fit when the calls don't go his way which seems strangely often. He's incredibly talented and he knows it and he has a fire for this team, (dunked at the end of a win, played D to prevent that SLU player from getting 40) some people get turned off by that swagger but I love it and think the Dukes need it 4:00pm EST tip on Saturday 01/12/2019 at the A.J. Palumbo Center. I don’t think their Kenpom is that low, I see them on there at 172 right above us Question: Why aren’t the Coaches’ post game press conferences shown on the Go Dukes Official Website? I thought they added a lot to the game experience. Dambrot and Burt are refreshingly forthright. C’mon, SID, this is a good thing to have! They are on the Facebook page, but aren't posted on the game recap on the website anymore. Worth the time to watch them - Really excited seeing how the team played during this win. I feel like we are finally seeing what good coaching can do, feels like we've had talent but no fundamental coaching for the past decade. We all suffered through JF but I'll even say, while I love him, RE's teams were usually not fundamentally sound and relied too often on talent alone. Really hoping for a repeat performance tonight but we look like a real team and I'm becoming more optimistic for this season. 8-5 OOC I'd be very disappointed with 8-5 ooc. That would basically mean they lost to W&M, ND, Pitt, PSU, and Marshall, basically every team with a pulse. If you can't get any wins against those teams, I can't see being able to go 9-9 in A10 play. To me, you can't go winless against that group if you plan to have any kind of a breakthrough season. I completely agree with you, I'm just wary of getting my hopes up too high. Fact is, the whole team basically turned over and it's going to take some time to gel. My thinking is that we might have some bad OOC loses due to the lack of chemistry early on but with KD at the helm we get better as the season goes on and have a relatively strong conference showing. I'd be content with that, my thinking the whole time has been the focus should be on year 3. 8-5 OOC Reading about Tydus reminds me of all the folks serving all over the world protecting our safety and freedoms at home.I am sure there are many who are occasionally homesick in places like Afghanistan Definitely important to keep in mind those who are putting literally everything on the line for our country. I think too many people in my generation take for granted the fact that we live in peace (for the most part) in a free society (for the most part) in this country. Many people have fought, suffered, and died to give us what we have today, and many more continue to do so. 1 2 Jump to

My concern is purely from a talent standpoint. We seem to bemoan our lack of talent to hang with the top of the league, but then say we are better off when our most talented players leave. It's not a stretch to say that EW and Sin were two of the most talented players KD had. Chad was looking like he may get there as well. Looking around the league most of the top programs have true impact players fairly regularly, either from recruiting or molding them through the years.
I do hope this is addition by subtraction and I'm still optimistic for next year. But I am starting to worry that we are on a 'only 1-2 years away' treadmill. That being said there has been tangible improvement in KD's first 4 years and maybe I should just be more patient and trust the process. Men's Basketball » Chad Baker leaving... » 4/20/2021 10:25 pm

1. I think you have to give guys a couple years under the best circumstances to develop. This was a really crappy year for the Dukes: multiple COVID stops, two starters leave mid-year, etc. Rick Suder would've never been thought of as a "proven scorer" after his freshman year, and he turned out to be one of the best shooters in DU history.
2. Coach threw four freshmen into the fire and I think they all showed they're going to be players. Chad Baker was close to 10 ppg on a senior-dominated team and shot 40% from 3 and 80% from the line. When the season starts, other teams will be keying on him because they will think of him as a proven scorer. I think Okani, Acuff and Harris will all bring their games up a notch, especially if we give them a good PG and a post player who can fill the middle defensively the way Michael Hughes has.
3. Pipkins-Price-Bosnic-Price was a talented quartet, but not much behind them and they certainly didn't win many as a team.
4. Rice's second year (Moon-Atkins-Arnold-BB-Dixon). Talk about a guy not being "proven:" Fred Moon was a 5th year player who had done nothing for four years then stepped up and shot 60% from the field and gave us some rebounding. But Moon didn't do a lot of scoring. That all came from BB (15ppg), Arnold (15ppg) and Atkins (10ppg, whose season was slowed down by a bout of mono. BB and Bruce both lost about 5 ppg off their averages from the previous year. Losing John Moore that year to injury was also a killer.

We are on the same page, not his best game. But he is being asked to do more because, in terms of talent, we are thinnest in the backcourt. We are fans of a basketball program, it’s a pastime for us. For these kids it’s their life. They don’t owe us anything, they have the right to make their own life decisions the same way we all do.
We can be angry, mad, disappointed, whatever about the situation but should hold ourselves to something higher than personal attacks. If Sin leaves this is gonna be 10x worseMen's Basketball » Eric Williams leaving » 4/08/2019 9:25 am

Coffee, would love to see Virginia win and get an even higher percentile rank nationally. But given I’ve already won all of the pools I’m in, it would just be icing on the cake - it all broke my way this time aroundMen's Basketball » A10 Awards » 3/14/2019 12:24 pm

Hoping I'm wrong and they get to 20 wins, but just trying to stay realistic with such a brand new team. I'm hoping to see consistent improvement as the year goes on and look for some real noise in 2019-20
I think it's important to give the perception that the program is moving forward. Sure, us die hards will be there regardless, but if we lose every time we play a half decent team in the ooc, the perception among casual fans will be, "same old garbage Duquesne", and Palumbo will be empty when we start league play, robbing us of any home court advantage, and leading to more bad losses at home. To build a buzz, we have to get some good scalps, and go into league play with an impressive record. 10-3 would do the trick, 11-2 would really get folks buzzing.
Not to be negative, but the OOC schedule scares me, its either cupcakes we will handle with no problem or games that are very lose-able. I think with this much turnover you have to expect some growing pains, that usually holds true across all sports.
Again, hope I'm wrong and you're right, just trying to be realistic and givMen's Basketball » Get On The Record 2018 - 2019 » 11/08/2018 2:02 pm

That being said, are you criticizing Tydus' decision by comparison? If so, its not very fair to him. Decisions of where to play basketball vs decisions to serve our country are in different realms and not comparable. Not sure if I just misinterpreted the tone of your post.
