I think when your title changes from Director to Vice President It's good for the kids we have, and it'll help attract talent, too. I am not buying what most of you guys are selling on this thread. First, players transfer for numerous reasons but the four most which includes 95% of the reasons a player transfers are 1. A coaching change.( no fault of the new coach) 2. A player was under recruited and has displayed he can play at a higher level and wants to play at that higher level to showcase his skills. ( shows the coach can find players) 3. A player was over recruited and in order to play in college he must transfer to a lower program or division. ( illustrates that the coach has trouble identifying what kind of talent it takes to compete at this level) 4 player and coach just don’t see eye to eye or the player is homesick.( this kind of falls on the coach for not really knowing the personality of the player) In Keith Dambrot I trust. I loved the hell out of Chad Baker and Sincere Carry and I wish them wonderful careers in college and beyond, and thank them for their contributions here. But it's all about putting a team on the floor that's capable of getting to The Dance, and if that means different players for us then we'll be fine. Try not to think traditionally in terms of positions; I.e. point guard, two-guard, swing-man, Power forward, Center. The trend is toward position less basketball affording coaches the opportunity to play many different combinations. The important thing is to have versatility on defense; so you can readily switch and guard anyone on the opposition without creating very bad matchups. That’s why guys like Ayers, Baker, Okani and Acuff are so valuable in today’s game. They can guard up or down in terms of size matchups. Reminds me of John Chaney's Temple teams. A PG, a post player, and a bunch of athletic 6-6 guys who played maddening defense. TDM 155 pounds. I might've weighed that back in the '60s... I have legs that weigh 155. Ya cheat ya pay. I'm sitting in on the Dave Harper Zoom call tonight and one of the questions I sent to Bryan Colonna was about clarifying what's going on with the roster. We've played it so close to the vest that my guess is we won't get too much clarification. God be with you ‘til we meet again. My April Fools issue -- which earned me a serious reprimand from AD Red Manning -- allgedly had him leaving DU to coach Pitt and several Dukes assistants getting sloshed while discussing it, among other things (may have implied a relationship with him and Dean of Students Marian "Hurtz" Hurst as well). Don't think any of us have cracked the code. 13 are on basketball scholarships, and the rest are either paying their own way or are receiving some other type of aid. DU is diligent about reporting and guidelines, so it's safe to say: I posted something that wasn't true, based on something I saw on another medium. No limits, my friends. To the roster, what this coach can do, or where this team can go. God bless Eric! Happy to see him do so well. Happy for Brandon Wade at Michigan, too. Great! Let's just accept what we are, a AAA team for the big colleges. Awesome! I thought you were better than this, man. Guys, I get that we want kids to get stronger, but this isn't football. We want them to be agile as hell with freakish leaping ability and good speed, too. God bless Eric! Happy to see him do so well. Happy for Brandon Wade at Michigan, too. So sad. I understand his wife just lost her mother. Now husband. Two young boys to grow up without their father. I we on this board argue & lose their minds over a loss. This is truly perspective in the overall scheme of life. Prayers to Dom’s family🙏 Truth. This is a sad day for Duquesne basketball. I got to know Dom through social media, and developed an instant liking for him. Loving family man, passionate about his profession, and a great contributor to Duquesne University and our athletic programs. One thing I was looking forward to throughout the pandemic was the day I could see the Dukes play at the Coop, and get to hear Dom in person, and if circumstances permitted, be able to introduce myself and let him know how much I appreciate him. Jackdoc on the Rice Team with BB, Bruce and Doug they also had 7'0 freshman Ricky Tunstall who was a house and played ahead of Freddie Moon who was very thin. I saw them cruise past a solid Villanova team at the Palestra that year, even without Bruce, who got tossed for an elbow about two minutes into the game. That team was LOADED and had more talent than any team that we saw at Duquesne since the 80's with Ron's early teams also very talented and the only group that could challenge the Rice team. I do believe Basketball weekly had that team in the top 25 for a week. Then they sort of semi-collapsed. Arnold got kicked out or left. That may have been the year BB got hung in effigy at WVU. Atkins had some big time battles with Sam Clancy Yes to all of that, and for levon, Tunstall was not the starter. Moon was. I say cut our losses and go after Archie or Pitino Jr now. Make a splash with new field house and take the city by storm where we become the hot ticket for college basketball !! Program would be in better shape with fewer people making silly comments like this. Getting those numbers down to "none" and "none" would put us over the top. I agree with ‘81 and it’s not even close with those two teams. Even the teams with Tommy Pipkins, Kevin Price, Nick Bosnic and Mike James et al had guys that were proven scorers. There’s no Pipkins on this team! Not being argumentative or disagreeable, but I have a few different thoughts from you and duq81 on the topic. Years of rooting together and sometimes squabbling the way brothers do. My heart is broken thinking about duq81, who knew the history of our program better than anyone, ever. I've always enjoyed his telling of the sad tale from Red Manning to now. N/M God bless all! Welp. St. Francis was 0-29 in its previous games vs. Pitt, so it fit the profile that they wanted in a non-con opponent. Not only will St. Francis NOT be invited back next season, Heather will Lykely tell them the check is in the mail for this game and then change her cell phone number.

In scenario 1. The first year or two Dambrot lost a few of Ferry’s recruits which is understandable. Scenario 2 I think the only player that falls into this category is Eric Williams. But at the tail end of Williams tenure here, he and the coach didn’t not see eye to eye. Scenario 3, Dambrot has brought in more than 20 players that are not A10 quality players and they left the program for lesser schools. The final scenario it seems to me that only four players have fallen into this category. Mike Lewis, Eric Williams, Sin Carey and now Chad Baker. What is very strange to me about these players is that they all got considerable playing time and started most of the time. What happened is anyone’s guess. But regardless, why play these players so much if they were giving bad attitudes or causing problems. It’s the coaches job, first to know the talent, then to know the recruit will fit into your beliefs and then to build a strong relationship with that player. I feel Dambrot has failed miserably at knowing what talent it takes to win at the A10 level. I feel he only had a good relationship with three players to date. Mike Hughes, Weathers and Dunn. How do you think the 2010-11 team stacks up in this convo? I was a student 07-11 and always felt that team was the best. 1. I think you have to give guys a couple years under the best circumstances to develop. This was a really crappy year for the Dukes: multiple COVID stops, two starters leave mid-year, etc. Rick Suder would've never been thought of as a "proven scorer" after his freshman year, and he turned out to be one of the best shooters in DU history.
2. Coach threw four freshmen into the fire and I think they all showed they're going to be players. Chad Baker was close to 10 ppg on a senior-dominated team and shot 40% from 3 and 80% from the line. When the season starts, other teams will be keying on him because they will think of him as a proven scorer. I think Okani, Acuff and Harris will all bring their games up a notch, especially if we give them a good PG and a post player who can fill the middle defensively the way Michael Hughes has.
3. Pipkins-Price-Bosnic-Price was a talented quartet, but not much behind them and they certainly didn't win many as a team.
4. Rice's second year (Moon-Atkins-Arnold-BB-Dixon). Talk about a guy not being "proven:" Fred Moon was a 5th year player who had done nothing for four years then stepped up and shot 60% from the field and gave us some rebounding. But Moon didn't do a lot of scoring. That all came from BB (15ppg), Arnold (15ppg) and Atkins (10ppg, whose season was slowed down by a bout of mono. BB and Bruce both lost about 5 ppg off their averages from the previous year. Losing John Moore that year to injury was also a killer.

One of the reasons I haven't posted much is because I feel like the Board has been overtaken with whiners, complainers and self-proclaimed experts who never have anything good to say. duq81 could opine on anything, good or bad, without tearing the program down or overtly offending anyone. And he was right way more often than not, whether I agreed with him or not.
Continued prayers duq81. Proud to call you my friend, always.Men's Basketball » Lamar Norman has entered the transfer portal » 1/05/2021 2:46 pm
