Most of them aren't UPMC-related either though. They are largely independent, rural facilities, which was the stated goal when the school was announced.

Regarding UPMC sponsorships, we aren't really in a position to turn that money down, especially without a viable alternative. I'm sure they shopped the naming rights around before agreeing to a deal. We may never know, but I would be curious to see what UPMC is paying for the naming rights.

There are many questions on why the Dukes haven't signed anyone yet.  There are many of you who are excellent in following the players that visited plus I am not on twitter.  Maybe they just haven't made up their mind yet until they take all of their visits.  For those of you who know how to follow the recruits, did any of them that visited us already commit to another school?
Go Dukes

Of the five confirmed visits that I have seen, I don't believe any of them have committed elsewhere. I think, with all of the changes to NIL and other rules, it is not as simple to get a signature on the dotted line these days. A lot of negotiating.

I was excited to see there were 11 comments on this thread after the weekend. Sad to see it's just like the others. One thing sticks out to me that Styles said and it's that Dambrot "Underachieved". Even if his first 6 seasons here were all like '21-'22 getting 6 total wins and 1 conference win, in his final season he made the NCAA Tournament and WON an NCAA Tournament game. At Duquesne. Phil, Styles, and others may be unaware but the last time Duquesne did each of those was 1977 and 1969 respectively. When Keith Dambrot came to Duquesne his goal was to return Duquesne to the NCAA Tournament and he did that and more. Keith Dambrot sure as hell did not underachieve at Duquesne.

To add onto that, he won 20 games in three of his seven seasons here. This program had one 20-win season since 1980. If that qualifies as "underachieved," sign me up for that.

Styles, there is nothing "respectful" about what Phil is doing here though. He's had a bizarre personal animosity towards Keith for a long time. Keith's body of work, both at Duquesne and Akron, speaks for itself and he doesn't need to revise history to better his image.

A little underwhelmed by the new logo, but hopefully it will grow on me. I do like the new uniforms though. Upgrade over the somewhat plain uniforms we had the past two years.

Also understood there will be a game in Akron again.  That would mean 7 neutral court games accounted for.

I like this scheduling. Beats playing a bunch of scrub teams in a 90% empty PPG Paints arena.

I cannot confirm this, but I saw a tweet saying that the other teams in this event are Indiana State, Air Force, and Loyola Marymount.

I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned here yet, but we are playing Marshall at that event in Cleveland. OSU and WVU play after. We are also playing the return game at Marshall the following season.

I don't believe that Mike Lewis was forced out or eased out the door. In my opinion (since I nor anyone else on this board knows for a fact) what happened was that Mike's playing time decreased based on his performance on the court.  He was struggling particularly on defense.  He saw that his stock was dropping and made what  appears to be a very rash decision to leave and give up a semester of eligibility.  What was reported was the deal he had with Nevada was to pay his way in the spring semester, join the team this summer and sit out next year on scholarship, and be eligible in the 2020-2021 season.  He is very vulnerable now since the new coach (whoever that is) is not bound to give him a scholarship and keep that deal.  If Mike transfers, unless he gets a waiver, would still have to sit out a year at a new school.  Mike is a terrific person and I really hope things work out for him.

I believe Steve Alford is the new coach at Nevada. They had like five players enter the transfer portal. Alford has his work cutout for him.

I don’t think you can use the first two years of Coach D’s tenure to accurately judge his player retaining abilities. In his first class, for intance, it was clear that all of the high school recruits were major reaches (including Eric based on his offers). This was necessary based on the timing of his hire and the large amount of scholarships available. For year two, we still had approximately seven scholarships to fill, which guarantees that there will be roster attrition. Only so many spots in the rotation. Three of the four guys who left this spring did not have a clear path to significant playing time.

Some pretty epic meltdowns on here. I wish people would take a deep breath and look at what we have coming back next year. I honestly believe we will be better next year, even with Eric.

Looks good to me!!!!!!!!

That’s probably correct, at least to start the year. TDM, Ellis, Maceo, and Rotroff off the bench...  not too shabby. Would love to add a grad transfer power forward.

Remember, Eric and sincere had zero D1 offers other than Duquesne. I think coach D has earned our trust when it comes to talent evaluation.

I just wish we can develop a steady program that actually graduates some players.  Like I said, I like getting a player from NJ.  Get some toughness in here.

Me too. Unfortunately, college basketball is totally different today. And it’s just going to get worse as they continue to liberalize the transfer rules. They are handing out waivers like candy these days. It will be free agency at some point, which is going to kill low and mid major basketball.

I like this kid’s game a lot. Great size for a guard and seems to have to ability to get into the lane which is something we were missing this year.

My first reaction upon seeing the news that’s EW is transferring was shock. But now that I’ve had a chance to think about the interactions between coach and EW this year, I am really not that surprised. Something just seemed off with them this year.

It sounds like Gavin is getting ready to enter his name in the portal, as well. Like with wade, not a huge surprise. I’m not sure either of them are A10 players, but I could see them having success at a true mid Major or low major school. Best of luck to all.

I’ve seen maceo play enough times to know that his shooting performance last night was not typical for him, but I was impressed with his effort guarding that solid Navy recruit all night. He plucked him clean several times.

Doesn't look like the type of field that will help your sos any. We're kind of walking a fine line here. You don't want to overschedule, and ruin your chances of winning. On the other hand, if you think you have a team that can at least reach the NIT level, you have to have some good teams on your schedule, and you have to eliminate the horrible teams.

I’m assuming there will probably be a couple P5 straight road games on the schedule. I don’t mind playing in a mid major tournament and trying to collect three wins over a long weekend.

We’ve been in the final few schools for quite a few really good players in the past decade. Might be fun to make a list at some point this offseason.

Interesting stat that one of the reporters posted on Twitter: Maceo will finish his career with over 1,950 points, but will never have led his team in scoring any of the four years. We are getting a team guy who can really put it in the basket in a variety of ways.
