Again, I will say, that this idea of recruiting kids that you know will be here for more than one year is incredibly ridiculous with the current state of the game. The better the player, the shorter period of time they will be here, so basically you are saying you would rather recruit worse players that will stay than better players that may leave. IN..............SANE!!!!!!! You recruit the best possible team for the upcoming year and worry about next year, next year. That's how it goes now.

The truth is there are several people who do this, they all are stuck in an old way of thinking and have not adapted to the new landscape of college basketball. Sorry fellas, it's not the 1970's anymore. They just sound like old men yelling "Hey you kids, get off my lawn".

I feel like many of you are stuck in the past with a very old school mentality. Over the last month of the season we had the biggest boost to our image in over 40 years and we have to capitalize on that. A lot of you seem to have a losing mentality based on the way we have always operated instead of thinking bigger and realizing that we can and should at least operate at a higher level like Dayton.

This is a whole new world where you have to expect the majority of the roster to turn over every year, and I for one want to improve it every year. Who cares about local kids? Who cares about retaining players if we are able to get better players? DiMichele was an incredible surprise, but I would get rid of him and the rest of the team in a heartbeat if Dru could bring in 7-8 high major players. Obviously that isn't likely, I am just saying, who cares, we should all want to WIN and build the best possible roster.

Also, as CalDuke has been saying, it almost doesn't even matter what Bronny James is as a player. As a top 30 HS Senior he probably was at least slightly overrated, but he would still be the best player on the floor for Duquesne. He didn't get to play because USC was stacked at guard with Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier, two all-league players and he was coming back from the heart issue that delayed his initial preparation. More importantly, the amount of attention and publicity Duquesne would receive all year, with LeBron in the stands for games, would be the coolest thing that ever happened to us. It could change the national perception and make Duquesne cool to the point where we may be able to actually start recruiting other Top 100 or at least Top 200 level high school players. That's a game changer! Why anyone on this board wouldn't want that is absolutely baffling to me. Also, this idea that kids wouldn't want to come here because of Bronny is insane, sure there may be a one or two, but you don't think the vast majority of 18-20 year old basketball playe

If this change in conference has even a remote chance of coming to fruition, Duquesne needs to conduct an aggressive, national search for a new coach rather than moving forward with DJ in the next few days. I am not saying that they couldn't stil, ultimately, choose him. I am saying that even without a move to the BE, the Duquesne job is now quite a desirable one but with a move to the BE, it would be one of the hotter jobs open this year.

Being an Olean native & lifelong Bonnie fan, (with the exception of the 2 or 3 games when they play my beloved Dukes), I would be sad to leave the A-10. However, not so sad as to advocate against the opportunity to get into a mega Big East.

I hope DU names Dru tomorrow or Tuesday the latest.  I say this for the following reasons:

1).Why shop for hot dogs when you already have steaks in the fridge. I really think people underestimate Dru's role in the Duquesne turnaround and run to the A10 Championship. Dru has been here for two years and DU has won 20 plus games both years.  KD said that Dru ran the defense which has been the key to this team's success.  Moreover, KD has said that Dru is really basketball smart and has groomed him for the job. I would just ask the question, who could Duquesne hire who would do better than what this coaching staff has accomplished this year?

2)  I really want to see DU retain the core returning players and I think the players all like and respect Dru and gives us the best chance to keep these guys. I would also like to see the entire staff return.

3) Don't underestimate the LeBron connection financially and otherwise.  I truly believe that this connection could propel to better recruiting and maybe even to the Big East.

Like Adrian Monk said: I could be wrong. but I don't think so.

What an absolutely amazing run!! Can't fault them tonight, they are still giving it 100% effort and fighting but Illinois is on a different level.

Nothing but love for all of them, this run has been one of the great sports experiences of my life.

This is the end of an era, it will be a brand new team next year with a new coach and mostly new players, but thank you, thank you to Coach Dambrot and all the players for this unbelievable ride!

Anyone that follows Jon Rothstein knows that for the past 7 years his Dambro slogan has been "Keith Dambrot: Mission Impossible", but he just posted this which brought a tear to my eye.

I will stop posting after this because no one wants to hear negativity clearly, but if you were reading these posts on the last few games you would think this team was a rag tag bunch of upstarts finding their way through a tough season.

If you take the fouls and the free throw shooting out of it, over the last 6 minutes, here are the stats:

Dayton 12-0 Run
Duquesne 0-8 FG
Duquesne 4 Turnovers
Dayton 5 Offensive Rebounds

The officials could have left the building with 6 minutes to go and Duquesne still would have lost.

I don't understand this board. How is everyone blaming the officials and cheering on the team??? This team is garbage. They are pathetic. Can't hold on to the ball, can't get a rebound, can't make a shot in the final five minutes of games. How do you go 6 minutes without scoring!!! I have never seen a team play sloppier basketball than this team at the end of games. When it was still a 3 point game Dayton missed the free throw and Drame rebounded it and just dropped it out of bounds. Every team puts the press on them in the last 5 minutes because they can't handle it AT ALL!! I have never been as frustrated with a Duquesne team as I am with this one in 25+ years of watching.

100% If he has that little composure in that situation at the end of the game where he can't even handle the ball or stay on the right side of the court, he shouldn't be in at the end of close games. A two point lead and they gave away three straight possessions with plays that middle schoolers wouldn't have made. It's INEXCUSABLE!

Does GW factor in at all? They are 10-7 too. They play VCU Saturday.

Dayton v StL is friday night.

No, because Duquesne, St. Louis and Fordham all went 1-0 against GW so they have no chance and they don't change any of the scenarios.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but we have ZERO chance at an NIT bid. There are 32 spots, figure a minimum of 8-10 spots for regular season champs who lose in their conference tournament, which leaves 22-24 spots. If we use Lunardi's projections from this morning, the first 8 out of the NCAA tournament are UNC, Oklahoma St., Clemson, Michigan, Utah St., Charleston, Penn St. and Texas Tech. Even if we figure Charleston wins the CAA tournament and goes to the NCAA, that is 7 more teams going to the NIT. So we are down to 15-17 spots.

From there, it is a long list of teams that would make the NIT ahead of Duquesne when considering NET, SOR, KenPom and attractiveness to the NIT: Tulane, Cincinnati, UCF, Dayton, St. Louis, Fordham, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Villanova, St. John's, Nebraska, N. Texas, UAB, Kent St., Drake, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington St., Vanderbilt, Florida, Santa Clara and Liberty.

The math doesn't add up unfortunately. With that being said, I do think we can win the A-10 Tournament and go the NCAA!!!

I came away from tonight's game totally impressed with this team. Yes, the shots weren't falling and there were some poor decisions on offense in the 2nd half, but they just don't have the size and the athleticism to compete with Kentucky. Also, you have to figure that many of our kids were nervous or overwhelmed somewhat by what has to be the biggest game they have ever played against the top school in the history of college basketball. The endless hustle that they displayed and the fight that they showed against what may be the best team in the country, was beyond impressive to me. They held their own defensively for 40 minutes against KENTUCKY! If they play with that same intensity and effort all season long, they will be top 4 in the A-10.

Unfortunately, Rotroff does count against the scholarship limit for this year. The rule that allowed 5th-year seniors to not count against their teams' scholarship limits if they stayed with the same program only applied to the 2021-22 season. He still gets his extra year of eligibility from the 2020-21 season not counting against players' eligibility, but he will count against this season's scholarship limit if he remains at Duquesne. My understanding is that going forward they will get one transfer without penalty; but remember that the rule doesn't apply once the player has graduated; but retains eligibility.  The "grad transfer" doesn't sit out a year, even if he transferred earlier in his career.  So if you see a guy, that you know has already transferred once, moving to another school and playing instantly; it is probably because he graduated from his second school.  That would apply to Marcus Weathers, whom, I assume has a Duquesne degree; so he could transfer again without penalty.
Keep in mind that this year is a lot more hectic, because of the Covid rule that basically gives every player an extra year of eligibility.  Many of the transfers this year, like Marcus, are players that would have exhausted their eligibility after last season.  I haven't heard anything about Mike Hughes' professional status; but if he doesn't get a Euro contract, he could play for Duquesne again, or transfer to the school of his choice for one year.

The one time transfer exception does apply to all players now, even grad transfers. So if you transferred last year and are a grad transfer this year, you have to sit out next season unless you get a waiver. Players like James Akinjo who transferred to Baylor and Rasior Bolton who transferred to Gonzaga will need a waiver to play this year, even as graduating seniors using their extra year of eligibility. Marcus Weathers doesn't have to sit out though because he sat out a year when he transferred to Duquesne, so this would be his one time exception.
