I understand that Terry did a good job, but I simply wouldn't worry about it.  This is extremely commonplace in the coaching world, and if anything, I would HOPE that Duquesne would give Joyce the autonomy to hire whoever he wanted to be a part of his staff rather than forcing him to keep anyone from Keith's staff.  Whenever I became the head coach at Penn State Altoona I didn't keep the previous assistant coach despite the prior coach leaving on a good note.  I hired my own assistant and would have been annoyed had my superiors suggested otherwise.  There are a ton of qualified coaches out there.  That being said, I wish Coach the best and personally I hope he lands a head coaching gig.  He deserves a chance to prove himself.

Did I write some place that I prefer a full-scale rebuild? I don’t recall doing so.

That is not what I want but, there are plenty of scenarios under which a new coach comes in keeps/gets to keep his preferred 4-6 returnees AND the overall roster ends up being even better than this year's. Duquesne is hot right now. This could happen!

I think there are some very attractive options to either methodology of enlisting the services of a new coach & that both should be explored. When was the last time Duquesne had multiple, great choices for selecting a new coach? Maybe when Satalin was hired?
How many times has a rookie head coach gone on to big success when his first head job was in the A-10? (I don't know but I'll bet someone on this board knows how to check.)

I also think we posters/fans should be prepared for 2-3 of the the returning players & at least 1 of the commits to not be a part of next year's squad regardless of who is coach. That is not because I have any inside info but because that is just the nature of today's college basketball universe.

For example, there is no way that Rozier, Nicholls, & the freshman PG signee are all going to be on this team at the same time. Similarly, the other present commit sustained a major injury & it would be no shock if he never made an appearance on The Bluff. That might not be right or nice but it is a fairly likely outcome.

Finally, even if DJ is the new coach, don't you think the last 4 weeks have earned him & his program a seat at the table where better players are on the menu? Can any of you comment on the relationship the Dru has with a player like Barba that has 3 years of remaining eligibility but has never really gotten a shot at playing time?

I haven't posted in forever, but I am beyond proud of this team.  I wouldn't have care if we lost by 100 tonight.  Now, let's hope we promote Dru and he can take this team to ever greater heights.  I think having the Lebron Connection with the NIL is crucial for the future success of this team.

I think sometimes those unscripted plays result in points moreoften than the drawn up plays personally.  Gives the defense less time to setup and prepare.

One shot away.  They beat Rutgers already and went to the sweet 16 last year.  It's a long season.  Lets win Friday then steal one from Nebraska.  This wont be a bad loss at the end of the season when they are an 11 seed.

Hey guys, it’s been a nice ride on the board, but I think I’m going to take a break for some time (if not forever).  I’ve enjoyed the conversations but ultimately I think this message board just tends to get me angry and upset.  I feel like the negatively abounds, even when we win, and I’ve enjoyed this year a lot.  I think we have a legit shot to win the A10 tournament, and if we ever do somehow make it to the Dance, I’ll be there!  You can find me on Twitter from here on out tweeting sometimes during the games!

Go Dukes!

KD is way too polite to say one of his players is/was a stiff.  Hima fit that mold unfortunately.  Look at his stats at Syracuse and you will see an almost exact duplicate of his competency/incompetency level of last year.  He's gone!  Forget him and wish him the best.  But, don't belabor the point  and criticize  coach KD for not using a player who made absolutely no difference in the plus side of Duquesne's record last year.  I think if he had stayed, he'd most likely  be behind Barre and Dixon for play time. The progression of both of the current freshman big men-Dixon and Barre- should speak volumes as to KD's ability to coach up a player.

All I will say to this is: KD is a lot things both good and bad but "too polite" is not one of them.

I could link about 20 videos where Keith blames himself for the performance of last years team.  That said, move on and hopefully we can agree that objectively, last year was an outlier season for Dambrot.

I also want to point out that I think the Hiring of Dru Joyce III was brilliant and that he will really help us going forward.  If you watch the games he is EXTREMELY engaged.

You guys make some valid points. I was a massive college basketball fan who went to games at a Bryce Jordan during the deeet 16 run with the Crispin Brothers.  I remember being blown away that we got to go to division 1 basketball games for free, against teams with players like Jameer Nelson no less (smooth move firing Marteli btw St. Joes).

When I started the Crew up I was obsessed with the organization.  I spent lots of time reaching out to complete strangers and then employed people like Face to get the fans fired up and doing the Mossie cheer.

There is definitely something ti be said about going to one game.  The coop is beautiful so students should want to go.  It seems to be getting better so let’s hope the team continues to win to build the momentum!

I honestly can't believe how bad the A10 is this year.  So many losses to rough teams.  We need strong teams like St Louis, Dayton, and Loyola to be consistently good so the A10 can remain a 3-4 bid league.  I think the league made some awesome hires last year (Namely Miller and Martin), so I am hopeful that the future is bright.  Just takes a couple years.

Good win.  It's worth noting that a lot of the A10 have had terrible losses during the Nonconference as well, definitely worse losses than Marshall (who I could see being an NCAAT team).  I see this team winning around 20 games, and I honestly think ANYONE can win the A10 tournamane this year.  Hell, maybe even Fordham.

The best takeaway from this game was that we lead for almost the entire game, and that we bounced back from two games where we couldn't make a bucket.

I know it's sort of blasphemy to even say this, but I swear that Dae Dae looked like Steph Curry on some of his threes tonight.  Also, the play where he drove and made that absurd pass to Brewer who drained the three was ::Chef's Kiss::

If we finish 24-7 and land on the bubble I will be living on cloud nine.  I think its like we end up 10-3 going into conference play.  We will see.

Stew,
I hate to disagree but Pittsburgh is not a college basketball town when the teams haven't proven themselves.  Even when Everhart had the crazy attendance rhode island game, it was only AFTER the team went on a roll.  If the Dukes keep winning, people will show up.  Look at Pitt.  They can't get anyone in the Pete either.  When the attendance does grow, The Coop will be the perfect arena for us.

It's worth noting that the Pirates have the nicest field in baseball, have like 6 million different marketing ploys per year, and still have low attendance when they are bad (like now).  It takes time.

This was a very nice win.  No chance we finish last in the A10.  Colgate made the NCAA tournament the last 2 seasons.

I was at the game (travelled from Altoona) and was pleased with the way the team played.  This is the first Duquesne team in a long time where I feel confident we will beat lesser teams.  Even the 20 win teams had some games where they had to make heroic comebacks and thus far we haven't seen that.  Still, the sample size is small.

Also, this video on Rozier I found on youtube does a nice job at giving an inside look at the Dukes.  Dambrot, Charles Thomas, and Dru Joyce (who I think was a HUGE addition) give insights.

The Zone has looked pretty effective honestly.  The effort has been really impressive too.  The jump balls alone show how much we are diving for balls and trying.

First of all, let's try not to overeact to this game tonight like we tend to do.  That said, this Kentucky team is SOOO long and it's causing our guys to play out of sorts.  Hopefully they calm down during the second half and keep it respectable.

Very true.  Plus, we haven't had a true mascot identity before so if you want to start fresh, now is the time I suppose.  It's funny because I love the Lion Logo, but just don't dig the mascot.  Hopefully that will change.in time, especially if we win.

Definitely not a fan of this... Blue Lion.  I really really like the new D, and feel the complete opposite about the lion.  Honestly, they should have just reused that badass Duke from the 1970s and called it a day.  That said, I don't care a lick about the mascot and I guess if kids like him, then I'm fine with it.  All I care about is the Lion actually being at the game.

What about Iona?

No thanks.  We have Fordham to fill the NYC market and Iona is one coach away from being bad again. Cluees was great and so is Pitino obviously, but they don't offer more than Murray State or Belmont IMO who have performed at higher levels. I would trade Iona for Fordham in a heartbeat.  I do, however, have a soft spot for Fordham despite them being awful.

I think Wichita State will be poached by the BE to give them 12 once they realize they can't get Gonzaga.

Of the remaining schools, I'd rank them thus:
1.  Murray State - Best MVC team, Rabid fans, Not a huge city - Nice Arena.
2. Belmont  - Moving to MVC but consistent winner, New Practice Facility coming, Good city/Fans. Small Religious school.

3.  Not interested

Detroit is not worth the add and brings almost nothing, especially since Dickie V won't be broadcasting for much longer.

I’ve stated my belief  before that Dambrot definitely deserves another year, possibly two for stability.  If that doesn’t work, grab Kenya Hunter.  However, some things that give me optimism:
1.  The recruits this year seem
To be higher caliber than normal with offers from better schools.  If all of them sign (I expect they will), and if we can add Grant or Brewer (or better yet, both), then I expect us to be a much improved team.
2. I think the A10 is portioning itself to be the strongest it has been in years.  With Miller and Martin plus Dumphry (not sure if that hire is good or not. He may be gassed), not to mention Loyola Chicago, I truly believe we should be a consistent 4 bid league if things go as I hope.  If that happens, it means being middle of the pack can get NIT invites and that we don’t have to perform at such a high lvl to make the ncaa tournament.
3.  I believe the in person recruiting will hopefully help us evaluate talent.

I may be wrong, but I am an eternal optimist so I’ll be rooting as hard as ever.  I also don’t begrudge those of you who don’t believe in the team and administration, that’s what forums are for!  Time will tell!

Awesome news.  With Clark and McGriff we at least have a decent backcourt.  I wish we had Primo as well, but if we can somehow add Dae Dae Grant to go along with them (and thiero for Good measure) I think our backcourt will be very very strong.  Clark and Grant would be outstanding together IMO.
